For those that have been there has anyone ever have trouble not getting one? I guess I’m mostly worried about getting stranded at a winery. I’ll be based in downtown Napa but have reservations as far out as Calistoga and one at Pride Mountain (they actually mention the difficulty of getting one). Our dinner reservations are at the popular restaurants in Yountville. None I would consider having us there late at night.

I would like to hear about others’ personal experiences. I thought maybe it was more difficult in the off season? I will be there first week in August for 4 solid days.

I know about the private driver services. We already have winery and dinner reservations lined up. Logistically I don’t think that service will work as the reservations are kind of spread out. It would cost me a small fortune if I pay by the hour.

We never had a problem, but we only really used to get us to Yountville and back and used it for close wineries. If you're going place to place on an all day bender, it will probably add some serious wait time. But never had a problem getting one.

I'll be there second week of august, or i'd rent a car and download uber app.

Is this the route most people take? We aren’t planning on going to more than two wineries a day. Possibly add a glass of wine with a lunch break somewhere. I think we’ll definitely uber to and from dinner.

I can handle alcohol and plan on pacing myself. I’m just really suspicious of going to a place where the point is to drink alcoholic beverages. Feels like a DUI trap.

I seriously doubt you’d be able to get an Uber at Pride. Driver services are usually about $60/hour driving your rental with a 4 hour minimum. What we’ve done is have a driver each day to take us to the wineries and then we’ve driven ourselves to supper later that evening. It ends up being a little pricey once the trip is done but we consider it in our budget when planning (plus there are 4 of us so we split the cost).

We booked an Uber in advance to make sure we hit our reservation at FL….Side note. The truck in front of us lost control and flipped arse over head and landed in ditch. We were assured there was a fatality. We pulled over to help and they all got out.

We made dinner with no problem.

I did one day, and we hit like 5 wineries and i was way to drunk to be driving. So the next day we just ubered around the best we could. It didn't seem like a DUI trap to me, i don't think i ever saw a cop.

I drove between Napa and Sonoma the first time I went, and the windy arse roads with a sheer drop off and no guard rails scared me sober. Since then, my travel companion and I have always taken daily turns as the driver and not so sober passenger.

Have had success between Napa and Yountville. Once got stuck at a restaurant in St Helena after dinner and wait an hour — eventually found a Lyft driver to bring us back down valley. Be careful with Uber on the hillsides/mountains—cell service is awful.

Last year Ubers were very hard to find. We booked a private car all but one day. The driver told us since Covid the numbers of drivers had drastically decreased in the area. That one day without a driver we ended up having to drive ourselves as there were no drivers available.
Hopefully things have changed.

This has always been an issue up there, and it started affecting the tourism bottom line. People were imbibing less, and a few wineries even shut down their tasting rooms.

That's why in 2017 they made drunk driving legal in Napa County. If you get pulled over for swerving, the cops make you promise to "Be reallll careful, and just go straight home"

Cell service is an issue. No consistency w getting Uber or Lyft. I’ve rented about 6xs there. No issues.
