Here now, no express passes. Rode all Harry Potter Rides before 9am, longest wait was 30 minutes. I had early park admission due to staying at Endless Summer Resort.
Yep...People make the mistake of showing up one day at the worst times, see the longest waits and think thats what it is like every day. Even on the busiest days of the year, there are plenty of times to do Escape from Gringtos and Forbidden Journey with waits around 30 minutes. If you take advantage of early admission and are there when the park opens, you can have a TON of success.

I get that if you time it right and have some luck with the single rider line you can have a decent experience without the express pass but most people aren’t that savvy nor do they wanna ride without their ppl w/ them. I could see it if you went to universal many times a year but for the casual park goer that goes every year/few years I HIGHLY recommend the express passes.

It definitely makes it easier but I didn’t single ride anything and waited no more than 60 minutes on anything, and that was the rock and roll roller coaster thing in mid afternoon. The early admission is what makes it easy to do the Harry Potter rides. Get there an hour before most folks, go ride Hagrid. Get off ride forbidden journey, then velocicoaster when it opens at 8 and then to gringotts. Relax and hit the others as wait times permit. Fast passes this week for my family of 4 would’ve been 900 a day extra. I don’t mind spending money but that’s a lot. Don’t get me wrong, it’s like pre Covid times at the parks..packed
