In case you missed it, a referee gave a weak pass to Ben Simmons last night before one of his free-throws during the Vanderbilt game and Simmons sent it back looking for something stronger:

That weak arse double bounce is for bitches. Don't make the player have to bend over.

He just wanted it done like that so it didn't mess up his routine.

What's so cool about this move was really an extension of what makes the kid so great...he's basketball savvy in a way most of the guys out there are not. Anyone that's ever played as much as a pick up game knows that if you want to piss off a shooter you give them a shitty pass like that. If you're on a play ground you do exactly what Ben did...you toss it back and have them do it right. The ref may as well have rolled it at him and talked trash the way he did it the first time. Not only is Ben more court savvy than the rest of the players out there, but now he's schooling officials.

It's pretty common for a player to give it back to the ref if they didn't get a good pass. Coaches tell you to do this. Source: I played high school and college basketball.

I pointed that out in the game thread. Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed.
