I wonder how any conf. tournament, making NCAA tournament contract payouts work since he was canned prior to those two events taking place? Does he still get the bonuses or is he no longer under contract?

He is under contract until after the season. The school is terminating his contract after that. He has already earned $20k for winning the conference tournament, so he is getting the bonuses.
