Robert won the C. Michael Curtis Short Story Book Prize with his entry last Fall. His short story collection titled Bodock: Stories is now getting published and Tuesday June 3rd he will have a 6pm reading at novel. on Perkins Extd in Memphis. Robert is a very gifted writer, a family man and just an all around friendly guy. I think he's worked 30 different jobs in the time I've known him and he's excelled at all of them. If you live in Shelby County and need an excuse to get out next Tuesday come by the bookstore in Laurelwood. Also, if you have a story or collection of stories you're looking to get published maybe check out this competition. Hub City Press will start accepting submissions for this year's contest in September.

He’s gonna be at off square books here in Oxford on June 5th as well
I remember reading the synopsis of it set in a fictional town during the very real ice storm of 94 here in Mississippi and although I was a small kid, everyone remembers that event

It's pretty cool that Tom Franklin is giving Robert's book these rave reviews. The first time Robert and I ever discussed literature (he's much more well read than I will ever be) we talked about Franklin's short story collection Poachers. He had a signed copy of it at his house and my dad had just given it to me for Xmas that year. I'd already read it cover to cover twice and it's been one of my favorite short story collections ever since. I'm not sure what to expect from Bodock but I have a suspicion you'll see a lot of Tom Franklin there in his writing. I'm thinking the style will be similar to John Grisham's 'Ford County' but reserve the right to be completely wrong about that.
