The entire California/Vegas thread went too far. The actor/singer and his buddy and then the doctor and lucy added nothing but pages. The movie is much better. the only good thing about the book was the fact that you got into the Don's head a lot more.

I enjoyed The Sicilian a lot. It has a flash forward part with Michael, but that was my least favorite part of the book. The descriptions of Sicily and the way things worked there with the mafia was pretty interesting.
