And that is absolutely what you would get with Les. The more I think about it, the more I believe Les would be the perfect guy for this job for 3-4 years. He will change the culture of the program and the players will play their asses off for him. For all the bitching people did about Les in his time here, one thing that I NEVER recall saying was that his teams didn't play hard.

Fuller will either take the job himself or convince Cutcliffe to take it.

If Les is going to be my big orange battle captain, I need him on the sidelines in a classic Bill Dance hat

First of all, shame on you.

Secondly, Fulmer made it very clear yesterday that he WILL NOT be coaching anything but his grandsons little league baseball team.

And now that Phil is at the helm, it's possible Cutcliffe may be more open to coming back and being a mentor to Tee Martin for a few seasons, but I'm not holding my breath.

Cutcliffe is where he needs to be, should retire at Duke without the stress of Volnation

Don’t really see Tee signing up for it. He’s not coming if not as a head coach, IMO.

Disagree if hes in a HCIW position. Miles is old. Sauces said that Steele reached out to Tee to be his OC and HCIW if Steele got a shot at HC and Tee agreed. Could be a similar situation here.

ITS HAPPENING

quote:

Phillip Fulmer’s first day on the job as Tennessee’s new athletic director brought a new name into the Vols’ coaching search.

Sources told GoVols247 on Saturday that Tennessee has made contact with former LSU coach Les Miles since Fulmer took the reins in a coaching search that’s nearing three weeks old. Miles, according to sources, is interested in the Tennessee job.

Miles, 64, has been out of coaching since early in 2016, when he was fired at LSU after a 2-2 start to the season. He went 114-34 in 12 years at LSU.

LSU won the BCS national championship in 2007, its third year under Miles, and fell in the national title game to Alabama in 2011. The Tigers won SEC titles both seasons and won the Western Division title in 2005.

Speculation remains that USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin would be open to joining Tennessee’s staff as a coordinator and associate head coach. Martin addressed the Tennessee job after USC won the Pac 12 championship Friday night.

GoVols247 reported Saturday morning that Fulmer was expected to look at Power 5 head coaches with proven track records while hitting reset on Tennessee's coaching search.

It’s also expected that, under Fulmer’s leadership as athletic director, Tennessee’s new coaching staff would include multiple coaches with Tennessee ties.

In his first nine seasons at LSU, Miles led a program that won 10 or more games seven times. He went 19-10 in his final 29 games at the school. Miles went 28-21 in four seasons at Oklahoma State before being hired at LSU in 2005 to replace Nick Saban.

An Elyria, Ohio, native, Miles played offensive line at Michigan from 1974-75. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan in 1980, before stops at Colorado (1982-86), back at Michigan (1987-94), Oklahoma State (1995-97) and the Dallas Cowboys (1998-2000).

Think he'd be a great hire. Great recruiter, and a national championship coach.

Hell, he won at Oklahoma State which a lot of people forget.

The Arkansas games in 2014. The two games following Bama in 2015. Some of the rent-a-wins, too. The game plans for some of those games were garbage, but those teams weren't mentally ready, either, and that's on Les.

I can accept the rest of your argument, and you make some good points. But I can't completely buy his teams always played hard because there were quite a few games where they went through the motions.

he bailed out les' shitty offenses so many times here. tough when you are on field most the game and you cannot shut down good teams all game. Pellini's defense here was #3 in nation three years running. LSU with chavis and bama had the #1 and #2 defenses in country in 2011. LSU being#2 if i recall.
