good coach and defensive coordinator but good head coach, that has yet to be proven
considering their offensive woes this year, I figured they would go for an offensive head coach
I think this hire is a dud in the worst way. There is no excitement from fans on this hire and he isnt the guy that is going to be able to compete with Saban on the recruiting trail. Of course, this is great news for Bama fans as they will continue to own the state. Shame for Auburn fans because they had a great opportunity to hire a coach that could excite and provide some recruiting competition for Saban.

I beg to differ. It has been proven that he is a horrible fricking head coach

I cant argue much there because facts are Iowa St. has gotten worse since his hire but it is Iowa St. and that is a very tough place to recruit and win.

Still, you look for good coaches who are doing more with less, not doing less with less.

WTF???? Not an Auburn fan by any stretch, but they would have done better just sticking with Tubbs.......terrible hire......5-19???

Its gonna be fun watching the Auburn brain trust sell this hire.

I think this is bad news for the whole conference. If he turns out to be a bust as everyone seems to think then that means there is absolutely no one in the state of Alabama to compete for recruits against Alabama. I was hoping they would make a great hire that would bring some instate competition back to recruiting in Alabama. Leach could have done that along with several other names that were floating out there like Grobe etc.

This makes absolutely no sense to me on any level. I simply cannot see this working-out at all.
I think we can all agree that its tougher to win in the SEC west than in the Big12 north. If Chizik goes 5-19 (or worse) in his first two years at Auburn, I just don't see how he survives.
Also, I think we can all agree that its monumentally tougher to recruit regional talent in the SEC west than in the Big12 north. You cannot convince me that this man will entice top- tier talent to dismiss Miles, Saban, Nutt, Petrino, Meyer, Richt, etc. and play for him.
Given enough time, Chizik may be able to build a reputation and a successful program, but I'll bet Auburn will only give him 2-3 years max to finish with a winning record, and that's just not going to happen.

I'm not really feeling this hire either, but I mean I didn't really have a clue as to who they might hire anyways. Auburn just is not a real appealing job right now and as long as Alabama keeps rolling then anyone who takes the job will get shot down for losing to them. They just hired this guy because of their defense in '04.
I'll be interested to see how their commits will take the news though.

If they were going to reach they should have went with Turner Gill. Gill is a great former player, young, players coach, and is black. Auburn hiring a black coach would have created huge buzz. He would have been the second black SEC coach and one of the first at a huge program.

What a joke!
Miami Dolphin fans said the same thing when Tony Sparano was hired. You never know.

They said the same thing when they hired Cam Cameron, not so much Tony Sparano since it was well known he was a Parcels guy

The Auburn represenatives on the forum have certainly been quiet thus far.
