Scoop, I've heard that he is the power behind the throne in Alabama football. My sources say that he is practically obsessed with protecting his father's legacy. If Nick isn't getting along with Bryant, Jr. he will have a miserable and probably short tenure there. Bryant could buy Nick out with pocket change. He is low key and avoids the spotlight but he is fierce in protecting what he sees is his turf. Don't f&%k with him.
I admit that this is second hand information so take it for what you want.
More secondhand information, but from what I have heard, not only is Junior Bryant on the Alabama board of trustees or whatever it is called, he is the chair of the board's athletic committee - meaning he is the point man on all athletic issues that come before the board.
The board of trustees holds sway over not just the campus in Tuscaloosa, but also Alabama Birmingham and Alabama Huntsville. Junior is so dedicated to protecting his dad's legacy and name, as well as the mystique of Alabama football, he does everything in his power to keep it #1 in the state.
When the UAB coaching job came open, it was initially offered to Pat Sullivan. Bryant nixed that because Sullivan is an Auburn man. He, and the rest of the Bama boosters are doing their best to run UAB football into the ground because they think Tuscaloosa should be the only "University of Alabama" football team.
When the SEC signed the Liberty Bowl tie in contract, it was written in (at Bama's request I understand) that Liberty could not invite and SEC team and a C-USA team from the same state, which would keep Bama from having to play UAB in a bowl game.

He has a son by the name of Paul W. Bryant Jr. that has no reason to raise funds. He has more money than probably the two next wealthiest people in the state of Alabama. He owns Bryant bank and they are opening everywhere in the state. He still ownds the oilwells that were given to coach Bryant by boosters when he was at aTm. He is a very wealthy man and you never see him in public. They say he looks just like coach Bryant. I have been a BAMA fan my entire life and I have never seen him in person, in the paper, or anywhere. He is kind of a mystery man of sorts.
Are you serious? I've seen Bryant Jr. dozens of times. He's no mystery man. Here's a pic of him with Mal Moore at the opening of the renovated stadium last year....

I'm guessing that's a joke? The guy on the left is Alabama's AD, Mal Moore. He was an assistant to Bear Bryant for a looooong time, so maybe its that "pets look like their owners" thing.
