I think it’s possible based on the growth he’s shown. This defense’s improvement speaks well of him, especially will all of the injuries and chaos. Working under a defensive-minded head coach like Dave for a year or two would also likely do wonders for his growth as a DC, too.
That said, we still don’t have a great read on him as a recruiter here coming from the pros. A new coach, especially one like Dave who might want some extra juice on the trail, might go in a different direction. Maybe Jones will turn out to be a great recruiter, but there’s not much to go on yet.
Even if Jones isn’t retained here, he could definitely get a DC job somewhere next year if he wants one. It might be down the ladder a bit in P5 or in the G5, but he’s shown enough that someone will offer him an opportunity. He could probably get a DB Coach job in P5, or he could always go back to the NFL, too. He will have no trouble getting a new gig.
