I’m happy with the effort of the kids. I just wish Jay had gone to them a little sooner.

he’s probably secretly loving this because now he has all the ammo to keep them grounded.

Maybe after McNeese. I think he’ll be pissed after this entire weekend and especially tonight with the lack of leadership with plenty of guys who should be able to do that for this team.

Love it.

Because you’re a pathetic piece of shite.

Rizy needs to be way down the line in the bullpen. Cannot consistently throw strikes.

Meh. Shores was inconsistent as a starter and struggled for a while out of the pen last year. Then he became a stone cold killer closing games in the CWS just lighting up the flamethrower. Rizy will get a shot to do the same.

How long are we gonna use "that's baseball" or "it's not conference play" to excuse hits? 2 weeks til Vanderbilt, time is running the frick out

How long are you going to be a baseball casual?

He pitched great today

That’s two solid outings in a row for Schmidt, which is good news. I know the competition level, but he did plenty of fricking around walking and hitting guys vs mid-week opponents last year.

Kinda. They had two errors and also struggled on some basic plays.

They got a little lucky at times, too. The SS had a looping throw to first that took 1B way off the bag, but it was just in time for him to get a tag down on Yorke. We also had a couple of balls hit that looked like they had a shot to drop in, but they always seemed to be playing the perfect depth in the outfield.

Their pitcher on the mound when I tuned in was having a good game. They mentioned he could get to 93 on the fastball and he wasn’t giving up walks. The broadcast mentioned his pitches weren’t easy to pick up due to his high leg kick and delivery. It definitely worked for him.

It’s good when you win a close game like this where nothing other than your pitching is going the right way. But boy was it going right. Moore and Sheerin ate them alive, as they should have. Their entire offense was a HR and a double from one hot batter.

And I wonder if Hilton’s lower body injuries have sapped some of his explosiveness, his jumps and 40 were solid but not what he had been billed to be from the preseason camp talk every year

Hilton was reported to be faster than this in HS. He probably did lose that top end to his multiple injuries

Their purple uniforms are choice. I would love to see LSU get an NCAA hockey team.

For Title IX balance, we would either have to cut a men’s sport or add another women’s sport to do that. There’s also the fact that no other SEC school currently competes in Hockey and very few schools in the South.

Right now, it’s only Miami and Tennessee St, and the later just started as an Independent this year. Arizona St is considered more as a Western school, but they are the only other. And those areas all have strong Hockey cultures that have built up around NHL teams (although Phoenix did lose theirs). Nashville has multiple rinks and youth leagues around the metro area to grow interest in the game. LSU doesn’t have any of that.

He just made a lot of money

Yep. Anyone that fast who can return kicks and play as a legit slot WR is going to have a job and potentially a long career. Hope he finds the right situation.

Other than the one hot kid, NE has had nothing for Moore, as it should be.

He looks like he could finish this one out, but there’s no reason to take that risk with him. Let the pen bring it home.

Nicely done, Moore. That was a great K pitch.

The bottom line is we were ranked like 13th in the SEC as far as revenue share to baseball. So 12 other SEC programs were able to give their baseball programs more money than us. Does that make sense to anyone?

That’s likely because the administration knows they can use NIL to support baseball as needed. But they definitely need to keep Jay happy.

People have been saying this forever, just dont see it happening.

And it has been gradually happening as more programs become interested and fanbases get more invested. It will continue to be centered in the South and West, but it will grow because it has a timeframe all to itself after basketball and a very compelling postseason, just like March Madness.

Baseball, while regional, is less regional than another popular secondary sport- men’s hockey. I know that it’s difficult for teams in the Midwest and North to compete, but they DO compete. All but a few major universities have teams while hockey is completely niche and regional.

It’s also proven to be possible for smaller schools like Oregon State and Coastal Carolina to break through and compete at a high level. Southern Miss can’t cut it as a consistent giant killer in football or basketball anymore, but they absolutely can in baseball. That definitely helps to grow the popularity of the sport and fan engagement.
