It HAS to be a current NFL staff member. HAS to be. Otherwise the hire would have already taken place. I do not think we are pulling from Oregon or OSU. With that said, I think the most realistic possibilities are:

Zook
Del Rio
Nolan* (his HC fired)
Mike Trgovac (strong Miles' ties)

Edited to add. Although, I think CLM wants a "name."

I have to give most LSU fans credit. I would be a nervous wreck with all the names brought up then dropped. Hell, the Muschamp thing was an ordeal and we seemed fairly locked in.

Most Auburn fans see to be reveling in those that are freaking out. So the sentiment is appreciated.

...on a side note, why did you take the name "higgs_boson"?

I'm watching this name for key reasons.

Hanny said. " Once people get past the name", didn't he?

This isn't nearly as scary as Alabamans last head coaching search. They got made fun of harder than any fan base I've seen on this site. It looked like every target they wanted shot them down

Raise your hand if you turned down the Alabama job threads popped up daily. Apparently even Ronald McDonald turned them down.

Aaaaand then they got Saban...

I am a nerd at heart. After more than four decades on this earth --- I am comfortable with that!

Edit

Always loved LSU/Auburn games, and next year's is the game I am most nervous about on the schedule.

Ok, I will bite. I have no clue, but he seems to fit in the Riddle that Hannigriff put out.

Currently coaching, but not the DC.

I don't see that as anything that needs defending. Then again, I'm one of the people that found the Higgs...

Did the hints actually include that he was a DC this season?

This is what I remember being said:

a good hire could be on the way...currently coaching...initial stages of mutual interest...keeping it quiet not to piss off current employer...good resume...says look past the name

Why would anyone melt over Zook, though? Great recruiter who was a successful DC at the NFL level.

Hanny says coached in 2014 (not Chizik) and was a DC in 2014 (not Steele).

@gerrydulac: Dick LeBeau out as defensive coordinator. Says he and #Steelers have agreed to mutually part ways: "Time to go in a different direction."
It's happening!!!!
