If Aranda has rank on Jimbo, which is essentially what the OP is saying, then I have no idea why Aranda hasn't been named the new head coach.

Pretty simple. Aranda is under contract no matter what and has more than proven himself. For all LSU would be giving up to get Jimbo outside of just his contract, it doesn't make sense to then turn around and pay a couple more buyouts for one guy. The fact that Pruitt could turn around and leave in another year makes it even more ridiculous. Keeping the bird in the hand makes good sense.
