He's in good shape physically (as far as I know) , so with a life expectancy of 90+ I could see him coaching at least 10 more years.

As far as NC go, the playoff may be paradoxical in that Bama may qualify more years, but not win both games.

I don't think Saban is drained by football; he may not enjoy the silliness of "power brokers" and "run of the mill fans", but he really loves the game of football.

All that being said, I think he works on ESPN instead of Lou within 8 years.

Like the Bear. Announce his retirement, dead two weeks later.

That was before I was born, but I'm pretty sure everyone knew he was retiring the whole season.

Bear Bryant announced his retirement in the November of his final season. I think it may have been in the week following a loss to LSU. He died after the bowl game.

saban just looked old and worn during the IB. I hadn't seen him much since last season, but when the camera would zoom on him, he just looked like he had aged a ton.

This. Even last year he had that frazzled look at times.

That said, it's kind of a double edged sword. I'm not sure retirement would be kind to someone who is as driven to excel as he is.

It would be cool if he retired and went all Joe Namath or John Riggins and just enjoy the hell out of life. Or maybe at least Phil Jackson. Or even Sean Payton.

Heck, maybe he could grow his hair out and go all elder sage, dispensing wisdom on the tv shows.

He can't have too much time left.

He retires the day before sanctions are announced

Nick is all football. He cannot retire. He's a 62 year old guy with the everything of a 40 year old. I think he's at Bama for 10 more years easy... As much as I hate to think about it.

He will hoist that monstrosity of a NC trophy this January and a week later will be announced as LSU's next HC. He knows Bama fans won't hate him for it and wants to improve his rep/legacy. It'll be like LeBron coming home. It'll be his last "challenge," even though he'll inherit a ton of talent that he can win with immediately. Meanwhile, his understudy Kirby Smart will try to maintain his success at Bama. Win-win-win.

The pedestal for Bear is because he was so much more than a coach. He built Bama and was a community leader, philanthropist, a dominating presence over the state for decades. A mythic figure.

Whereas Saban is solely football. Almost autistic.
