It might be ridiculous, but knowledge LSU fans know the right hires are the only path to success for LSU.

I never concern myself with Will Wade hires nor did I worry about Saban hires at LSU....which as a reminder included Jimbo, Muschamp, Adam Gase, and Kirby.

Os hires haven’t quite matched that level, nor had he made himself a student of the game that he can develop a game plan.

Does LSU now have to hire non-white, young guys (or females)? What qualifies as young?

The major issues we had on offense were on 3rd downs, goal line offense to some degree, and also the inability to run the football.

We certainly dont need to move to an all out air raid attack as the solution to these things, as a few people seem to want.

Dont fix what isnt broke. Bring on Brad White who also coaches outside LB's, and I'm sure is capable of coaching all LB's, and promote Callaway to OC, and promote someone from within to PGC, or bring Munoz back.

If we cant get Freeman, White is more than capable of being an excellent DC, and we probably have a realistic chance of getting him too.

We have our passing game in place, it has proven to work 2 straight seasons. We don’t need to bring in an air raid guy, there’s no point. Just promote Calloway, use the savings on a DC or the rest of the staff, and hire a run game coordinator, because we need to learn how to run. Usc managed to have the worst rush offense in the pac 12 despite having all that talent. We don’t need that

I agree, he runs a 3-4, but it’s a very aggressive attack oriented one. Masons 3-4 is a reactive D that simply aims to minimize big plays. And between the 2 of them we know Whites D works in the SEC, there’s 2 years of games to show it. Whereas, Masons SEC history is ugly!

Saban’s hires are average at best which is why he is 23-0 against them. Saban makes them good assistance coaches.

How do you think O is doing with developing his hires? Any specific examples of in game knowledge learned that got his hires a better gig?

I'm sure that White wont limit himself to running a 3-4 once he see the freak athletes we just brought in this recruiting cycle. Maason Smith is a day one starter for sure, and Savion Jones and Landon Jackson are also going to be great pass rushers. We need to get all these guys on the field, they are going to be too good not to.

A 4-3 with great defensive lineman is as good as it gets, remember the 1991 Philadelphia Eagles defensive line or the 1985 Chicago Bears defensive line? If you dont give a QB a chance to throw, it doesnt matter how good he is, no QB can complete passes on his back.

LSU fans are super reasonable. All they want is O to hire Bill Walsh as OC and Bill Belichick at DC. Not hard to understand O. We are LSU. Get it done!!!! Back the brinks truck up.

The Saints run a 4-2-5/5-1-5 and are pretty damn good D in the NFL. The fact that Nielson has coached under Dennis Allen for 4 years and is still doing it speaks volumes. The fact that the DL may be the most impressive part of the Saints D shows that they trust the guy a lot to develop that expensive talent they have there. He utilizes the personell great, on 1st and 2nd down he has 2 stud DTs in there that are good at getting into the backfield and 2 super DEs to come off the edge. On 3rd down they run a 5-1-5 in which 3 of their linemen are stud DEs and they get to the QB. Nielson understands and works within that entire scheme. Also doesn’t hurt that he was a hell of a recruiter and DL coach at NC State. While there he was nominated for the Broyles Award and had all 4 linemen get drafted one year.

Nielson would be superb also, that guy builds great defensive lines. I thought he already said thanks, but no thanks though from reading other threads?

Sounds like the idiots I sat next to last season, who were aggravated that LSU would even attempt a run play.

According to them, thry never wanted to see a run play called.

Sounds about par for the course of a segment of our fanbase

Agreed, we started 2 freshman QB's for quite a a few games, ended up starting brand new freshman receivers and a freshman tight end, and still had a very solid passing offense overall considering.

No reason to move to an air raid, just refine our 3rd down and goal line passing offense, and for God's sake learn how to run the football again too.

I don't hate Coach O. In fact, I want him to succeed here. His success is LSU's success and he brings a lot of intangibles that I truly believe no other coach could bring for this particular program. But he has managed to step on his dick at every turn since they wrapped up that stellar 2019 season, and his hiring of Pelini and Linehan is at the top of that list of screw ups. He has now hired enough assistants to have a track record, and that record isn't very good. I don't necessarily blame him for Matt Canada, but the two big hires last season were truly bad, and not just with the benefit of hindsight.

LSU can contend for another championship almost immediately. They have a lot of young talent that got thrown into the fire early and will be ready to compete at an elite level. Hopefully, this COVID mess will be behind us which, because of circumstances not entirely within Coach O's control, adversely impacted LSU possibly more so than any other program. They have a solid recruiting class that has the potential to be even better. That's why it is VITAL that they do their due diligence and make the best hires for the program to keep the recent positive momentum going to turn this back around.

To answer the OP's question, they can and should have an exhaustive interview process where they evaluate a large enough pool of candidates to make sure that they get the right guys for the program. The folks who are paying attention show concern when you only hear a few candidates names who are eerily similar to the retreads and head-scratchers that we got the last time around. Hell, I would say that they are actually being a bit more realistic than normal! I haven't seen anyone suggest that Drew Brees will be our OC when he retires this year (although I'm sure that it is out there and I just missed it).
