What was the reason Del Rio never interviewed last time?
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
The way I understand it, there was language in JDR's contract that led him to believe he had to inform the Jags before he spoke to anyone about a job(any job not just other NFL teams). JDR told his agent to inform the Jags he was speaking to LSU. His agent dropped the ball. Once JDR found out the Jags were not told he waited in a limo for the call to be made. Skip got pissed off and left.
JDR fired his agent.

Hello Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Brown.
You are a very talented youn man with lots of potential. If that potential is developed you could be a very special player. Want to see my Super Bowl ring? I earned it coaching a Hall of Fame linebacker.
PS I was the linebackers coach for the best defense of all time, the Baltimore Ravens of 2000. I coached Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware, and Jamie Sharper to their best seasons ever...then left, and turned the Carolina Panthers from 2nd worst (31st) defense into the 2nd best.
I left the NFL to coach your son at LSU.

Man I would love to have him here, but why would an 8-3 NFL coach leave?

now imagine him trying to recruit... something he hasnt had to do in how long?????
Exactly. this is my problem with him as a choice. Plus he has no reason to come to college from teh NFL, he is doing ok. So what his daugther is at LSU. HE is a USC man, what are we going to do, put another measly 1.2 USC clause for when he bails after PEtey leaves?

Plenty of reasons, number 1 is he considers LSU his dream job.

He hasn't lived in California in over 20 years and has far more conections to LSU than USC at this point.
And if he does leave for USC, we just higher the next guy who wants to compete for a MNC.

so why do you think LSU is his dream job over being in the NFL? you two have been talking? yeah i know he likes NOLA, he has a place in the CBD, he is 8-3 and in the middle of the playoff race for a superbowl. crazier things have happened. Do you think LSU is waiting on that? that would kill recruiting for next year. He would have to bail before the end of the season. NFL regular season is not over until the end of the year at least.

Id be willing to have a little slip in recruiting to get him. But thats just me.

He wanted to interiew with LSU last time while his team was in the playoffs?
There is no reason has to either wait until his season is over to accept or leave his current position. He can set up a staff to recruit and keep coaching or the Jags can choose to cut him loose.

Chances are recruiting will slip a bit for a year no matter what happens.

I'm officially on the Del Rio bandwagon. Who's the other SEC guy, Cash?
Posted on 11/28/07 at 7:52 pm to GoldenBoy
Del RIo would be a great recruiter I think. Anyone ever seen him talk? He's one of those sincere, stand up type guys. I think he would take well to HS players and families.

I'll have to check with Supa to see if you are pre-approved.
