Greg Schiano with Austin Thomas in a football ops role could’ve been a pretty sweet combo for the vols.

Seems to me the boy wonder was pretty much a typical CFB Director of Player Personnel at LSU, but with a waiver to also recruit. And it looks like the fake "GM" title LSU gifted him made him a bit delusional.

If he wants to be a true GM, it's puzzling that he doesn't seem to understand (1) that's an NFL gig and (2) he's not yet qualified for that.

If that's what he wants, he needs to work his way up the ladder via player personnel and ops jobs in the NFL.

Jmo.

I assumed that Thomas was part of the Currie/Haslam plan.

Lol at Currie/Haslam doing ANYTHING remotely helpful to Tennessee football.

Bama already has someone in Austin's role.

In fact, they probably have 3-4 guys on staff that does what he does.

The only reason he would go to Bama is to have it on the resume, but Saban isn't giving him that kind of stroke either

He won't have the power but he'd probably get a nice salary and title there if he can show Saban he can be the bag man for more Phillips and Jacoby Stevens types. It's not like that dipshit from Amite is there because Saban thinks he's a great talent evaluator.

You're not wrong in principle here, but you're wrong about "dipshit". He worked Saban's camps for years prior to being on his staff.

He was Butch Davis' Director of Player Personnel at North Carolina too. And truth be known, he's probably coaching AL's safeties right now.

But I hear ya
