Jack Del Rio to UT-Austin! Book it!

Just had to do it for the fun of it.

Whether Saban is on their radar or not, the supposition will be that he is, until somebody else is announced as HC. And with his history, denials will be meaningless. This has implications for bowl prep and recruiting down the stretch.

Regardless, you don't leave a place for another job when you're about to play for a national title. Nevermind his second in three years. Brian Kelly doesn't take the Notre Dame job if Nebraska beats Texas, possibly sending Cincinnati to Pasadena.

Seems to me Texas would shoot for a huge proven name coach.

I've been hearing things, nothing confirmed, but hearing things - the number is $100 million dollars, the term in 10 years, there is a large buyout and the candidate is a head coach in the SEC.

He's done nothing to command $10 million a year...

Now - if Texas actually makes a move, it means they've already quietly made a deal with "somebody" (and who can that be really?) as well as getting Mack on board, with the details of his buyout.

It is all just rumor - but, Sexton's already getting a "Is that your final offer?" number from Penn State, and Nick's number will be the highest, so he will get that first.

Even if Saban is so turned off by the scandal, he's going to get a number from Penn State to get Bama to match.

Ditto for Texas and that's going to be quite a large match - then Saban, as always, will A/B it with a pencil and Big Chief pad.

9 figures.... $100 million for a football coach.... imagine the repercussions....

You're not very old, are you? Darrell Royal had one mediocre year, and he was virtually shown the door.

The $100 million was actually bandied about last year in the press like it was mythical - and, I remember the reaction, including mine, "Who can afford that? Maybe Texas, but nobody else." This year, the same number (and make no mistake - this is coming from Mr. Slimy Sexton himself - whether or not it's serious) is being talked about in relation to a rumored sudden retirement of Mack Brown? I don't believe in coincidences.

Keep in mind - Sexton has a large stable of head coaches - each one a buy, sell or hold, so to speak. The buys need to know what the real time market rates are to keep their options open and negotiate bonuses, raises and extensions, the sells need to know what to expect in a "have to take a job I don't want" situation and the holds at least need to know what the options are and the numbers (after all that's how we got Saban - Sexton was queried if Tubby would be interested in the LSU job and said, "No, but Nick Saban would be.")

Having said that, I had a reliable source tell me during the search to replace Saban that Skip's office, particularly Skip himself, said, privately, that he would have a difficult time endorsing a HC candidate represented by Sexton because of the constant, every couple of month harping, bitching and asking for more money.

So just following how he operates, this is most certainly going on, behind the scenes. Now, knowing Saban like we all do, there will come a point where the money will literally be too good to say no. Will Texas get to that point? I don't know. But, Bama fans protestations notwithstanding, he's thinking about it.

If Nick Saban is the Bama head coach on signing day in February 2012 (ETA to correct from 2011) it will be the longest job he's ever held in his life, ever, ever. And he still has no buyout in his contract. Why do you think that is? If he really had no intention of leaving, he could negotiate more money and add a buyout. So if he's not going anywhere, why is he leaving money on the table? Does that sound like Saban or Sexton?

LSU fans know how Sexton/saban play the end of the year coaching drill. If Mack brown retires, it's gonna cost bama a fortune!!!! Saban may have absolutely no intentions of going anywhere. Regardless Sexton will play PSU/UT against Bama. Especially if bama doesn't go to the NC game.

I visited with a current Texas player's dad at Thanksgiving. Says a faction of Horns power-brokers are tired of Mack's hands-off GM ways despite somewhat rebound season this year. Says many of the players only view CMB as a GM. He thought that it was probably after next season that Mack would exit. Said many were glad that Coach Boom was gone, and that he did nothing for the program.

I asked him if he thought UT would make a run at Saban or Miles, but he didn't have any idea or heard anything in those regards.
