Better now than later. I friend of mine had them out as a high school sophomore and missed three weeks of school.

No inside source, just some observations and knowledge of how these things work. If the Kurds are crossing over from Iraq, we're with them. They're our boys.

Don't believe everything that's said for public consumption.

West Point cadet booted over AI deepfakes

The Army dismissed a cadet from West Point after he was convicted of extortion and indecent conduct earlier this month for using generative artificial intelligence to create fake nude images of a woman, according to the academy and service court records.
Ex-cadet Cayden Cork threatened to publicly release the deepfakes of the woman if she did not send actual nude photos of herself, according to a charge sheet obtained by DefenseScoop Thursday. Cork pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 10 and a military judge sentenced him to be reprimanded, forfeit all pay and dismissed from the Army.
The judge, Col. Trevor Barna, also sentenced him to 10 days’ confinement, but an academy spokesperson said he was credited 10 days, resulting in no time in custody.
Officials have not disclosed which AI software tool Cork used to create the deepfakes. A spokesperson for the academy declined to provide additional information Thursday.

USATF half marathon championship in chaos as guide vehicle leads runners off course

- The U.S. half marathon championship descended into farce on Sunday when a guide vehicle led the top three women runners astray with less than two miles to go, handing victory to an athlete who had been trailing by more than a minute.
Jess McClain was comfortably leading the women's race ahead of Ednah Kurgat and Emma Hurley when the guide vehicle took the trio off the main course.
Molly Born, who had been more than a minute behind, capitalised on the chaos to claim an unlikely victory, with Carrie Ellwood and Annie Rodenfels completing the podium.
The misdirected leaders paid a heavy price for following the wayward vehicle, with McClain finishing ninth, Hurley 12th and Kurgat 13th. Wesley Kiptoo won the men's race without incident.
USA Track & Field denied an appeal following the incident, despite acknowledging the course was inadequately marked.
The race served as a qualifier for the 2026 World Road Running Championships, but USATF said selection remained open.
"The team will not be officially selected until May," the governing body stated. "USATF will review the events in Atlanta carefully."
USATF shifted responsibility for the guide vehicle to the local organisers, saying lead vehicles "are provided and managed by the local organising committee" and directing questions to the Atlanta Track Club.
McClain, a veteran of U.S. distance running who finished eighth in the marathon at the World Athletics Championships in September in Tokyo, will now await USATF's review to see if her championship hopes can be salvaged despite the navigational nightmare.
Elijah Blue Allman arrested for trespassing at NH prep school

Police in Concord, New Hampshire, arrested the son of musicians Cher and Gregg Allman on assault charges.
In a brief statement, the Concord Police Department said that it responded to the St. Paul’s School a little before 7 Friday night after a caller reported an “unwanted guest.”
The police say that Elijah Allman, 49, of Malibu, California, has no known association with the college-preparatory, co-educational boarding school but was there “in the dining hall causing a disturbance and acting belligerently.”
Police arrested Allman and charged him with two counts of simple assault and a count each of criminal trespassing, criminal threatening, and disorderly conduct. He was processed and released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned at a later, unscheduled date.
IIRC Cher tried unsuccessfully to put him under conservatorship a while back

The first 24-48 hours were always going to be a slam dunk. What happens after that is the question. If the Iranian government doesn't fall apart, if the people can't or won't rise up. They have a lot of missiles and drones stashed and we won't take out all of them. If this goes on indefinitely the pressure will rise for boots on the ground on one hand, and from the American public on the other hand who will question WTF we're doing.
