So it says Petersen? A guy who dominates second-tier conferences is the "sure-thing" to thrive in the big time? I hope they hire him.

Who is that Jesus guy?
UT blogger who entered the scene last year (or at least became "popular" i would say he has a 80% or so hit rate, but he does qualify a lot of statements with terms like "fluid".
I will say that he does appear to have a source or two in the athletic department.
edit: also he never really says anything too shocking. I mean is it really that surprising Mack Brown/AD is trying to implement a succession plan?

So...now we know why Sean Peyton bought a house in Austin and moved his family!! Wonder how much it would take for Texas to buy him??

The feeling I'm getting around Austin is that when Mack leaves they want Peterson. The two staffs have gotten close and Peterson is believed to be a shoe in for bringing the horns back where they need to be.
I never hear Saban mentioned much at all but it would not be unreasonable that the horns would go after him.
I dont think Mack will retire this weekend but his reign is coming to an end soon. The main thing I see is that the weight of the longhorn network will be what crushes him. UT can not get anyone to pick the thing up. They are deeply invested in and have sold the rights to ESPN and 5-7 and 7-5 seasons are not helping it get picked up by any means. (Thats right I said 7-5 because I think Baylor beats them this weekend)
Two football games this year were only seen by a few thousand people because no one in Texas has the network. The rollout of the LHN has been cumbersome and the locals are getting restless. Being an average football team when you are supposed to have the deepest pockets and talent advantages is not helping at all.
I think Austin still likes Mack but they are now clearly seeing that the man has weaknesses and he may be played out. He has two conference titles in 12 years of top recruiting classes. I think he gets one more year and then its over for him.

Alabama is well ahead of Louisiana according to Forbes best states to live in:
Alabama #33
Louisiana #40
I've lived in both. There's not much difference. Birmingham is a wonderful city --- one of my favorites --- and the coast is nice, but other than that Alabama is not all that great. Most of Louisiana gets the same review.
I would have to imagine that Austin has both Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa beat. By leaps and bounds.

That is not true. It is available nationwide and in Texas on Verizon FiOS, on Grande Communications, and on several smaller cable systems statewide.

Yes it is true. It's not carried by any major provider and it's small footprint, coupled with it being such a minor offering, equals not very many viewers. I can't get it in Houston.

You must've missed the bolded part of the quote I took issue with -- that it is not available to anyone, anywhere within the state of Texas.
That is NOT true.

The Longhorn Network has more than 4 million subscribers, mostly via Verizon FiOS.
If anyone cares (haha)--
Texas communities in which the Longhorn Network is available via Verizon FiOS:
Allen, Argyle, Bartonville, Carrollton, Colleyville, Coppell, Copper Canyon, Corinth, Denton, Double Oak, Flower Mound, Fort Worth, Garland, Grapevine, Hebron, Highland Village, Irving, Keller, Lewisville, Lucas, Murphy, Northern Fort Worth, Parker, Plano, Rowlett, Sachse, Southlake, St. Paul, Westlake, Woburn, Wylie
LINK
Also, "with almost 4.4 million subscribers nationally, Verizon is the largest video service provider to date to announce the addition of Longhorn Network to its channel lineup. Verizon can be found in 12 states, plus the District of Columbia."
LINK
Smaller cable systems within the state carrying the network: Consolidated Communications, En-Touch Systems, E-Tex Communications, Bay City Cablevision, Mid-Coast Cablevision and Texas Mid-Gulf Cablevision.

It might appear feasible from a business point of view, but it is not, IMO, from a moral or societal one. I would never support paying any coach that kind of money. I'm a die-hard Bama fan first and Saban fan second. He has done great things at Bama, as he did at LSU. The system is in place and someone else can step in and continue on this foundation. It might not be as easy to do at Bama vs. LSU due to in-state recruiting dominance of LSU, but Miles has taken LSU to another level and someone else would at least maintain at Bama. JMHO

Sexton has the end of the year squeeze play in action. Bama better get ready to pony up. Tradition fund fees are going to sky rocket. Don't take it personally. Saban is a disingenuous hired gun. He only loves himself. All the crap he tells Bama fans is just canned BS.
