O Brien isn't getting fired this year, and if he did I imagine he would take an NFL OC job before taking the Maryland HC job if that was the best college job he could get

Mullen makes like 3.3 million and Edsall was making 2 million. Maryland would have to commit a lot more money to paying a HC for him to even consider it, as I'm sure State would give him a nice raise to keep him.

Herman is probably the only one remotely plausible out of the 3 and he's supposed to be a fairly prominent candidate at South Carolina and USC. I don't think it's a given he would leave UH for Maryland either

Apparently we have offered him the job. It's his to turn down. 4.3 mill/yr with unlimited funds for assistants and recruiting.

Unlimited seems like a stretch

I completely agree. This is exactly what was told to me by a reporter who has always given me accurate inside info in the past:

quote:

offer of 4.3 million a yr plus unlimited money for assistants/recruiting. That was 2 days ago.

Only thing I can figure is the University isn't putting a cap on how much he can pay his assistants and recruiting coordinator. I guess they trust that he won't take advantage of the situation. Or it could be scenario 2...said friend needs to go into the used car business bc he's obviously fabricating..or severely exaggerating, any details that he's leaking.

Mullen is not leaving a second fiddle school in the SEC for the same thing at Maryland in the loaded Big 10 division they are in.

It would have to be a game changer type of school to get Mullen out of Starkville. As long as he goes to bowl games with occasional run like he had last year he can be a lifer at State. I don't think that's a bad thing for Miss St considering where they were before Mullen. Plus with their stadium upgrades they have made it more attractive.

Maryland does have Under Armour but they will always be a fish out of water in that conference, should have stayed in ACC

Maryland is a better program than State.

Can't believe some were saying otherwise.

If Mullen goes to a Big 10 school I think Nebraska would be more likely.

Sounds like they have spoken with Mack Brown already.

O'Brien getting this job wouldn't surprise me.

Damn, 2011 was 4 years ago. I figured might Michigan would've recovered from their worst defeat in history. 52-14 Gator Bowl Block

Bill O'Brien? The guy who was HC at Penn State for a year until becoming HC at Houston? He's going to leave Houston for fricking Maryland?

Maryland was actually the best program in the ACC until Bowden showed up. Mississippi St is in their golden era and hasn't sniffed a conference championship.

So you're saying that one program's best era was 40 years ago and the other school is in the midst of their best era, but it would be stupid for him to stay? Solid logic.

Maryland's Under Armour donor has apparently committed to being their Phil Knight.

New facilities, digs, bigger budget for recruiting, etc.

ETA:

And they are a better program than MSU by nearly every measurement besides conference affiliation.

All that may very well be true, he still isn't bailing to go to Maryland. Just isn't gonna happen
