20 years ago Southern Miss was a top non BCS/power job. IDK what happened since then.
Their margins were always razor thin even when they were winning and they benefited from getting very lucky with a few hires in a row.

After South Alabama, ULL and a few other programs started rising up, they took the recruits they used to depend on to make themselves competitive. Combine that with Ole Miss and State investing way more in their programs with SEC money and dwindling attendance, it’s a recipe for disaster.

They are one or two bad hires away from moving down to FCS

The choice for a new coach seems obvious:

Is Memphis really a huge step up from southern miss?

Yeah. The last 3 or 4 Memphis head coaches have all moved up to great jobs. Virginia tech, fsu, and Arkansas.

Tell me where past southern miss head coaches moved on to. I believe Memphis has a nice nil program too.

I feel confident in saying Kelly will never step foot in Louisiana for the rest of his life

There's no Beale Street anywhere near Southern Miss's stadium.

Larry Fedora and his hot arse daughter ain't walking through that door.

Ellis Johnson basically killed the program and I don't think the school/admin wanted to financially support it.

Huff left Marshall high and dry and now Southern Miss. I don't have high regard for coaches like him.

I think USM's decline began when they fired Jeff Bowers. He was a successful coach for USM.

USM started to decline when C-USA 1.0 fell apart and they were left behind

Larry is here 5-6 times a year. He's a friend of mine. I see your posts are shite, regardless of the board you come to.

Southern Miss was left behind because of two fricking idiots.

Martha Saunders
General Jeff Hammond

These two single-handedly torpedoed an athletic department and Southern Miss may never recover (other than baseball)

Daaammmmnnn he did USM dirty. He either must have really wanted out at Marshall or found USM not to his liking. Not like the AAC is a huge step up from the SunBelt.

It’s clear some of you only watch lsu and don’t like college football
