FWIW (and there's a good chance we'll never know), but I think Gruden is certainly a better Xs and Os guy than Miles, but Miles is a better college coach than Gruden would be.

College coaching isn't about Xs and Os like the NFL is (where talent is equal). College coaching is about recruiting (50%), motivating(25%), and managing kids (25%). not much need for Xs and Os and scheming in college and HS when there is a talent disparity. I might be overstating this a bit, but the general idea is fairly accurate.

So you think gruden could not recruit and motivate? He seems like a fiery enough guy to do that well. And you've already given him the x&o edge.... So how is miles better?

I think Xs and Os play a bigger part than that. Even in HS. See JT Curtis' teams.

couldn't agree more. maybe the % is off but I still think even those are fairly accurate.

by no means am I saying he was an elite qb but he was by far the best Gruden had in his years in Tampa Bay.

I don't see it happening with Les either. He just has too many enemies there.

I'm not on gruden's nut like some, but I don't think he'd fail. I think he's kicked back these last few years and has learned a lot. I think he'd do many things different on his next job.

He deserves it.

He did the right thing in 2007.

will again.

And this would be poetic justice
if he gets the chance to coach at
the place he's always wanted to go.
Well said.

As much as I've griped and complained, I was "won" over to really appreciate Coach Miles as this season progressed. Never expected to say this, but I think we'd really miss the guy. And if his heart is at Michigan, then I'd say if the chance comes for him again, he'd do well to take it this time and leave LSU a better, kinder place than it was when he arrived.
