It is difficult to step in and manage a program/team/staff that someone else built. That requires a set of skills that are special and very valuable.

However they are not the same set of skills required to actually build, hire, recruit a successful team and program.

Perhaps O has these skills too. Perhaps his record as the actual HC at OM where HE hired the staff, HE designed the scheme and HE recruited and decided what offers to make and accept is not proof he will not be a great HC.

What I think folks should consider is that having success as an Interim isn't proof that he will be.

By sharing this article by no means am I advocating for the hire of Coach O. I just don't believe Jimbo is the right guy. FSU hasn't been any better than LSU these last two years and (as the article shows) Jimbo isn't the offensive guru he has been branded.

I'm in the camp that says let's swing for a home run. Might strike out doing it but I'd rather get a young guy who is slightly unknown than someone who is past their peak.

I'm in favor of Herman and I'd be open to Coach O ONLY if he could bring in a great OC to run the offense.

Jimbo is a great coach and would be a great fit at LSU. I love Coach O. He has done a great job at LSU since he stepped on campus and since being named Interim HC. However, the skill set required to step in and take over a team and program that someone else built is a different skill set that is required to build a program, make the right hires, devise the right schemes, recruit and sign the right players and right mix of players. At LSU and USC he took over: A program that someone else made every coaching hire. A program that someone else decided on offensive and defensive scheme. (Realize that we kept the Miles\Cam scheme and terminology and playbook.) A program that someone else ultimately made the call on every athlete that was offerered and every offer that was accepted. A program that someone else made every administrative/support hire. It is difficult to step in and manage a program/team/staff that someone else built. That requires a set of skills that are special and very valuable. However they are not the same set of skills required to actually build, hire, recruit a successful team and program.
