2019 has to be one of the most embarrassing losses in history.
This game alone, OU’s secondary was extremely thin coming into the game and then lost their best remaining DB to a targeting call. The greatest college QB of all time was throwing it to an All-Pro NFL WR picking on guys way down the depth chart which is what caused the game to get ugly. But even that season he turned Jalen Hurts from a guy who couldn’t throw the ball down the field to an NFL starter.

We take Riley, we’re mediocre.
We’re currently at best mediocre. Lincoln Riley is popular because his first name is Lincoln. If his first name was Bob, he would have been fired after LSU skull fricked them in ATL.
Lincoln Riley has done jack shite at Oklahoma.

OU is a blue blood is it not? Should you not be able to walk into a school in AZ or Missouri and pluck top tier talent?
Yes look Transfer portal
You’ll see some of the names on this list are in the NFL now.
Once again… Who are you competing with in your conference? A battered Texas? They should have won that recruiting battle 8/10 times.

I don't think you realize how big of a disadvantage it is to recruit nationally and being able to keep up with the elite talent programs. OU better be glad their program prestige has kept them from ending up like Tenn which very well may happen if Texas starts getting better. You could argue Riley never built anything at OU but instead maintained it. There's plenty of examples of coaches not maintaining it and destroying programs. Hell, O did it in record time probably. He wouldn't need to fully rebuild here anyway just drive with consistency and he'll win a NC at some point. He'd have strong resources at his back to do whatever he wanted.

I think Napier is solid. I also think Mel Tucker could compete. You could grab Kiffin with someone like a Doug Belk out of Houston.
I want the Jay Johnson of football.

LSU pulls in talent because of the coaches.
Partly, sure. But I think they also like the idea of playing big games against Bama, Florida, Ole Miss, A&M, etc…every year. And making regular season trips to places like the Rose Bowl and Lambeau Field as well.

why hasn’t he sealed the deal with top tier defensive players?
Perhaps they’re not all that fired up about 11 am games against Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, etc…

O’s assistant coaches:
Joe Brady- NFL OC now
Slinger-Fantastic OC had some of the best offenses in LSU history
Aranda: mastermind and defensive genius. Leading a successful Baylor program now
Miles: Saban’s recruits
Jimbo: Best OC in the country at that time. Runs a decent program at A&M now. Won a national championship at FSU. C’mon man…
Bo: Top 5 defenses yearly during this time here. Took over and had a damn good run at Nebraska.
He won the championship 3 years after Saban left. The overwhelming majority of players on the team were not Saban recruits.
Jimbo wasn't our Offensive Coordinator in 2007.
HotTakes....Not so Much.

You're complaining about Riley's teams and you want Kiffin? The frick? You realize how many times Kiffin has been a HC right? What has he done so far?

He has the same resources as LSU. Stop trying to make it like he doesn’t. Have you seen their facilities and budget? It’s on par with LSU. No excuses why he shouldn’t have a top 5 class yearly imo.

My point is that the foundation that Saban set was still in use in 2007.

OU isn't a snowflake but LSU has more available to him. I don't think this can be debated with the recruiting advantages built-in.

What’s your excuse for the 2011 team? That team was better than the 2007 team championship or not

Bc # of post means quality or status. Rant logic.

OU is a Blue Blood bro… you’re making excuses. No reason for them to lose a battle to OSU or a USC.

And Riley does this pretty much exclusively. No matter how great of a recruiter you are, you're not going to get everyone your after when things like proximity to home are a factor.

Your take is no bueno. You cannot compare the talent pool Oklahoma has to go after and compare it to LSU's. He doesn't have the luxury of having an almost monopoly on the in-state talent Louisiana produces. Even still, he was able to get some stud QB's (Mayfield, Murray, Hurts, Williams) to come to Oklahoma and has done well with what he does have. I'm not saying he's the guy, but I am saying I believe he would be wildly more successful with the talent LSU gets every year.

Given the talent gap between these schools, he shouldn’t be cutting it this close imo.
-Recruiting: He’s best recruiting class ever was ranked 6th (24/7). His player retention is horrible (worst than us). He’s loses top tier talent yearly.
- Defense: we complain about our defense now, but this guy hasn’t fielded a top tier defense since 2017 (currently ranked 66th).
-Development: 7 players in one draft was his highest ever taken in one year. CEO did that last year alone…
Your first statement doesnt match the rest. OU talent is very good and best in big 12 but not at SEC level IMO (and NFL GMs opinion)
I do agree OU should be blowing more teams out, but, the guy has been to 3 CFPs. Lost in OT in 1 came back and made it relatively close in the 2nd and yes got blown out in 2019.
Hes only 38. If you can find someone else who has been to multiple CFPs Ill be happy to listen

Don’t forget Oklahoma has another P5 program in the state that’s a perennial top 15 team. And they’re not lacking in resources themselves with T Boone Pickens.
This is a shite thread that we’re giving too much credence to. There is no perfect coach. Even Saban has his UAB and ULM losses. And the few coaches with the least risk aren’t attainable. At some point, Woodward is going to have to take a chance on being able to identify somebody who has the qualities he wants in a coach that he thinks will be what it takes to make LSU a championship program for the next decade. There are no sure tho:gs. But Lincoln Riley is about as close to one as you could get.
