I do think what i was told seems logical. "Dont look at the name look at the resume"
This is what I don't understand. In regard to Smart, he would be one of the biggest names Les could pull. 3 national titles and many #1 defenses during his tenure. Why would any one have to look past the name?

And I agree it didn't work out for FL and that's why I don't want that to be LSU, but hard to say it didn't work out for Muschamp.

Please name a year better than the 2013 offense........ I'll wait.

I mean I get that some people attribute his success to Saban. I just don't think the "look past the name" thing fits with Smart. Even if you look past the name and only take the resume....didn't those #1 defenses come under Saban? And he's spent 9 of the last 10 years coaching with Saban. If we discredit his name because of his association with Saban, doesn't that also mean we discredit his resume for the same reason?

Your question was asking "why would Smart do it?" and that was answered
Sure didn't, I called it retarded. There's no way UGA, Bama, or LSU hand him the keys without HC experience at some smaller school, and his front row seat for the Muschamp debacle should only highlight that for him.

You don't get to a spot in life like being on the LSU Board of Supervisors by being dumb. I would have to assume that these guys can figure out that they keep giving pay raises and the losses keep increasing. Les Miles has worked pay raise after pay raise from these guys for not only his assistants, but for himself a couple of times since 2010. One has to think that the BOS are looking for a return on their investments.

Just 2nd hand knowledge. I admit that.

I love Miles, but this year was a little strange, even for me.

I mean, I can understand if the BOS is pissy about them investing millions in annual salaries for the coaching staff for the losses to keep piling up, but damn, there's a right way and wrong way to handle it.
If I'm a decision maker on the BOS, I tell Miles his tenure with LSU is predicated from this point forward on 2 things: 1) Fix the fricking offense and 2) hire a competent DC.

Ok, I will buy that. I am not trying to be a real insider. Just saying what I was told. You are probably 100% correct.

Your wait is over . . . '07 was better.

Football revenue has increased every season under Miles. Forbes just ranked LSU the fifth most valuable program in the country. This BOS story is beer buddies running their mouths, just like Smart's "deal."

So does that mean that the only way for LSU to seek changes is for me to stop buying tickets to home games and bowl games? Is that what it's going to take?

At all times you keep a short list of possible replacements, period.
Alleva will be the fall guy, but Bass raked them over the coals using his buddy Long to garner a ridiculous deal.
BOS would have been happy with an amicable separation, IMO.
Talk of them being upset if he courted Michigan is for appearance sake only. Looking for justification. They've lost that lovin feelin.

The Les Miles to Arkansas flirtation made exactly zero sense, except to give Les more power. The end result of that had Joe Alleva not bowing down to the threats from coaches any more. Alleva called Chavis' bluff, and Chavis foolishly decided to go all in and jump to A&M.

not drawing any correlation here, but the big story today on local sports talk - UT's athletic dept finished in the red by about $3MM
now, they went on about basketball (mens and womens) and some buyouts, but the main point they harked on all day: UT Football didnt sell out one home game this year
of course they drew a straight line to Strong's job security, which is mostly all media crap looking for ratings, but at the end of the day, a weak program can have a profound effect on revenue in one short year

Agree, but that's very different from the scenario described above that the BOS has its next coach, but won't pull the trigger because they'd owe Miles millions. They should be more committed to holding Miles' feet regarding our (again) anemic offense and getting this DC hire right.
