I think there is something wrong with him. He has aged a lot in 1 year.

He's a lights our recruiter and a lot of our fans won't like it but what Saban has done at Bama won't be matched.
He'd keep Bama in the championship conversation most years.

why leave Clemson? He can be the Bear Bryant there.
True, but it would be hard for him to turn down Alabama. Clemson is a great program, but being part of the SEC would be hard to pass up, especially for Dabo. He grew up in Alabama, he played football there, and he started his coaching career there. I would suspect there’s a part of him that would love to return to run their program.

a great coach in a fresh context.
you mean the one that let a Heisman level QB transfer to win a title elsewhere?

You're projecting, baw. Dabo knows that job was Hell on Earth before Munchkin Man landed. It's gonna be a black hole of despair for many moons. Many moons.

Not a chance this year. He might have pulled the trigger if he'd won a championship, but he wont go out on a low note with a mediocre bowl in his final season.
That’s literally how he left LSU so if history is any indicator...

If I were a 'Bama fan, this concept would terrify me.
You will not replicate Saban. There is no coach in America who can do what Nick Saban has done.
Other than Notre Dame and Miami, no programs have successfully hired 2-3 elite coaches. Alabama has two all-timers. Gonna be some time before they get another.

Completely off topic, but it's amazing that at this point it looks like LSU will have a third straight coach win a national title.

That’s part of Saban’s problem. After what he has accomplished people still show up at media days dressed as Bear. 50 years from now Bear will still be more important than Saban and he knows that.

So we should hope for a rematch this year to get in as many wins as possible?

Everything I said last after the NC game has been proven right. Losing at home to Leatherhead from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just seals it.
He's wasted the best collection of offensive talent he's ever had at Alabama with bad recruiting and lazy staff hires. All that's left is excuses and empty slogans. If he can't restore the "Alabama Factor" after getting embarrassed by a grown arse man who answers to the name Dabo then he needs to step aside for someone who can.
And when he does leave, I hope Cristobal isn't the best we can come up with.

I don't think he retires this year.
I hear it's going to be after the new year.

That would be the same Dabo that 'embarrassed' two other national championship coaches, Bob Stoops (twice) & Urban Meyer, in addition to beating four other coaches with a national championship under their belt (Gene Chizik, Les Miles, Jimbo Fisher, and Mack Brown)...

You talking about Cam Newton? This seems to be a pattern for Ole Urban.

Saban is more likely to sign a 5 year contract for $60 million to be the next HC + GM of the Atlanta Falcons than to retire this offseason

True but he didn't "go out"; he thought he was "going up".

I remember LSU beating Bama, in Bama, after 14 years or so of losing to them, and I am convinced that is what caused Bear Bryant to retire. Although he died like 3 months after retiring.
