It takes a hell of a lot more to coach a team consisting of 4 (4!!!!) players that LSU would have recruited to a win against teams with 50 players LSU would have recruited, than it does to struggle with keeping a team motivated in no name games.

After they lost to Navy they had no reason to play. Besides to be a season ender for other programs.
Especially when it was clear Herman was leaving.

Like Chavis against Notre Dame. Our defense was atrocious but it was due to outside factors (like the team knowing he was leaving). It doesn't make him a bad DC in the least.

We would all be doing back flips with Herman, Aranda, and whoever.
Instead we're relegated to hoping O, Aranda, and whoever will do well.

The dude will do good in his first year at Texas with what Charlie built but after that the shite will go down hill just like at Houston.

Let's put money on that! I'll bet Texas has a better record every for the next 4 years than LSU will

Ree has created this thread several times, his disdain for Herman is almost on a personal level.

How about 6-0 against ranked opponents, at freaking Houston.

22-4 is underachieving and yet we hired Ed Orgeron and his abysmal record.

22-4 is pretty damn good. The only problem is he went 13-1 his first season beating four ranked teams when it was totally the previous staff's team and players.

9-3 the second year with his system and only playing two ranked teams while losing to Navy, SMU and Memphis in the last seven games when he had much more talent sucks.

What should he be judged on? Maybe just his first season with the other coach's players?

Oh I don't know maybe rolling Florida state and Oklahoma and Louisville.

Or maybe winning a national title at Ohio State

Or turning Cardale Jones into a stud that destroyed Alabama

I ate lunch here in Austin with a good bud of mine who is a huge TX Ex. He said the Herman hire felt dirty. He wouldn't disclose why.. said he would tell me at a later time. Take it for what it's worth.

Texas has problems that go straight down to its pillars. It's a systemic wide problem. those problems don't go away overnight. I mean they had players that were drug dealers at one time and those problems didn't magically disappear when Tom walked onto the 40 acres. He will also have 10 Jerry Jones's in his ear every day. Tom knows that and still took the gig.

Which is why, despite Texas having as much money as they do, Alleva should have waited to find out their offer before pulling the trigger on Orgeron. You never know if he would be willing to take slightly less money to not have to deal with the political headaches and rebuilding effort that will come with the Texas job. Maybe he still takes the money, maybe he's using LSU as leverage, but you have to swallow your pride and at least make an effort if he's the #1 guy on your list.

Only problem is he wasn't playing against LSU or Alabama or Florida.

He was playing and losing to Navy, SMU and Memphis. BIG DIFFERENCE !!!

They were ranked #6 in the country and had a shot at the playoffs when they lost to Navy. No motivation there?

I'm just glad LSU didn't have any of this happen to them. Could you imagine if there were rumors of a coaching change? The LSU players are lucky they didn't have to go through this and knew who the coach would be for 2017 before this season started.

He would have done good in his first year with what Les built but would have been fired after his third year losing to MS ST and Ark.

People see Herman's losses and see it as evidence that he's overrated, what its really evidence of is that the AAC is pretty damn good.

Herman is a good and up-and-coming head coach. Nobody knows how he is going to do when he has to play in a Power 5 conference. Look what happened to Patterson and TCU. He was the next coming of "The Bear" when playing in the Mountain West and had to get up a couple of big games a year. Now he is an average coach in an average league - no the SEC.

His entire resume is coaching under very successful coaches. I don't give him credit for beating Alabama years ago when Urban was the coach at OSU.

Well he was part of the staff that won a title at Ohio State, he wasn't the HC when they did that or ever at Ohio State!
