Here’s the thing.
Jobs are stepping stones. Until they aren’t.
The only stepping stone LSU would be is to the NFL.
Maybe he tries his had one more time in the future, but where ever he ends up at will
Be where he will be for an extended amount of time unless he fails ridiculously or has an outstanding year and gets called on by the NFL.
Unlikely he would make a lateral move when he would be in a Top 5 job.
So it wouldn’t be something you have to deal with. The only reason it’s something they deal with now is because Ole Miss is a Top 50 program but not a Top 10 program

I think if we don't get Kiffin, our 2nd or 3rd choice would be hired and announced within a day or so.
As long as its not a rush to the podium job like Alleva did in 2016.

This is exactly how I have been feeling about this too. Fine if we get him, fine if not.

LSU and Florida have had a coach leave them more recently than Ole Miss has
It's funny watching Ole Miss fans continue to try to rationalize that their FB job in on par with LSU or Florida. Lane is having to beg yall to sell out your HS Stadium in your best season in a long time. That right there is a reason your job will never be on the level of the top SEC jobs.

Saban left for the NFL. A decision he has stated time and time again was a mistake.

Lane is 50. He sees himself coaching at least 20 more years. Realistically, that's 3 or 4 jobs (unless he hits it at an NFL job).
Sexton is his agent. Just like with Saban in the early 2000s, he will be taking feelers from any school or NFL team that could potentially offer him $1 more, even if it is just to get a bump from his current school.
I suppose that is the price of doing this sort of business. The alternative is to have a coach that nobody wants.

Lane is a rolling stone always looking for the next best thing, it's part of his personality. Even if he were to come to LSU he'd probably leave in a heartbeat for Bama, Ohio State, or the NFL.

If Lane comes to LSU, wins a title (or just does an overall great job) then bolts for Bama, I can't imagine how badly I will melt
