I just honestly think that if Spurrier were concerned about winning national championships he never would have taken the S.C. job in the first place. I think he enjoys being competitive and having Augusta National close by.

he had just failed in the NFL and UF didn't want him

he wanted to coach in the SEC, and preferably the SEC East. USC fits both qualifications

lou holtz, who apparently is a good friend of his, asked him to take over USC as a personal favor

and he got a membership to augusta as long as he was the HC of USC

that's what i'm saying. At this point, SOS is perfectly content to do xs and os, give tidbits to the media and play golf.

And guys, this whole fascination with augusta thing isn't the only thing. South Carolina has dozens and dozens of golf courses better than our very best golf course.

I don't buy this content playing golf shite. dude is a football coach and he wants to win especially now that people are questioning if he was ever really that good

yeah i think he'd joke about the golf, but he's had like 4 years straight of all the golf he wants

he is pissed right now. you can tell by how he's handled the 2nd half of this season

it isn't him joking a lil. he is really pissed off at his team and his situation

edit: but when he was coming back to CFB i think it played a part in his decision.

I think when he initially came in he thought he could work miracles at USC, but the SEC is so tough now if you don't have the dogs its tough to win. South Carolina will always be where they are in the east

i think things started to sour for him at SC when they ruled those recruits inelligable.

If Steve Spurrier is willing to make a career decision as a football coach based on the proximity of good golf courses, I don't want him.

This whole golf thing is blown too much out of proportion. He did the same exact thing that Saban did -- left UF for the pros, was terrible for 2 years and came back to the same division. Problem is, he went to a school that sucks. If he wants to win, he'd come to LSU. If he wants to play golf, he'll retire a Cock.

i think other than all the other things that fell in line for that job, promises were made

i don't think USC lived up to them

that's the point.

Nobody's questioning SOS's ability as a coach. We're questioning his hunger and desire.

but the point is

i think people ARE questioning it and it appears he is fricking pissed off at that

there is no better place for him to drop into than LSU right now and prove he still has it
