I think FSU hiring Jimbo as coach in waiting is a bad move, but it will take a few years for that to come to pass.

Willingham at UW (I didn't think this when they hired him

I did. A big part of UW falling off was their recruiting, and Ty is NOT a good recruiter. I figured that wasn't gonna work.

NCAA (big league ball)

Charlie Weiss - ND

Mike Price - Alabama

Mike Stoops -Arizona

Tyrone Willingham - Washington (he was too damaged by the Notre Dame debacle. I still think he's a good coach, just needs the right situation.)

Dennis Franchione - aTm

* Too early to tell - Randy Shannon - Miami(FL), Mike Sherman - aTm, and Rich Rodriquez - Michigan (and shows me how much I know, I applauded both Shannon and Sherman of those hires, as well as the Stoops and Willingham hires above)

NFL - Lane Kiffin - OAK, Nick Saban - MIA, Bobby Petrino - ATL and Steve Spurrier - WAS

***Note to NFL owners - NCAA head coaching skills do not necessarily translate to your league - they are similar products on the surface, but don't overspend in elevating a coach.

Good catch. I made my list before I saw yours.

Okay, "hire that didn't work out the way the school wanted" doesn't necessarily equate to "Top 10", though I did look at the Coker situation. 60-15? Didn't have a losing season? Worst hire in 10 years? 6 straight bowl appearances, going 4-2 in those? In 6 seasons, a BCS and three conference championships. Really? The worst in 10 years?

I dunno, his teams at Pitt have been ok. Pretty good this year, usually have good defense. Just needs a new OC I think.

1. George O'Leary at Notre Dame

And I am focusing solely on HCs, so good catch. (If I add O'Leary, and there's room, I will have the last 3 Notre Dame coaches, though I don't count ND's hiring of Willingham. He gets charged to Washington.)

Turner Gill. Fairly ironic miss considering the circumstances of the original post.

Randy Shannon Miami(FL), who I have as an "Too Early to Tell" on my list. And Kevin Sumlin at Houston.

There were 6 at the beginning of the season. With Prince, Willingham and Croom being the other three. I would officially have to say that Shannon is edging very closely to the hotseat. Sumlin went 7-5 this year, and Gill's stock is rising in upstate NY.

For NFL, I could give a REALLY long list. Your list is a good start (Petrino was horrible). Add Ditka for the Saints. And Carl Smith id we're talking coordinators too.

I'm suprised Callahan and Franchione didnt make everyone's list. Granted Weis, Willingham and Chiznik have fared very poorly, but Wash and Iowa St were pretty bad beforehand anyway. Waiching Callahan and Fran take two fairly good programs and reduce them to rubbish from the inside-out is the real travesty. I'd say if Weis hasnt officialy crossed onto that realm, he's fairly close by now.

I was really surprised noone mentioned John Bunting.

Hiring a coaches who has never been a coordinator is usually a recipe for disaster. John Bunting, Chuck Amato, Ed Orgeron.

i don't see how you can count a hire that has yet to produce any results as a top 10 worst hire....of course we can provide opinions on the hire and speculate, but can it really be considered one of the worst hires yet?
