Sounds like a guy that isn't afraid to continue learning in his mid-life years and is making progress on his goals.

gets a head coaching HS job at age 33 and has a great run.

There is your answer.

It would be the equivalent of LSU hiring the UL coach because "he's one of us".

It's my opinion that you are out of your element

i mean, i live here. i know a lot of folks involved in tx hs football. i'm not just shooting my mouth off because a school hired someone that i don't know anything about.

and it's not high school coach's jobs to steer kids to a certain school, or most often when that happens anyway

no one said coaches would steer kids to tech because of mcguire being there just like no one is steering kids to utsa because of traylor. but familiarity with schools and coaches in the state certainly make recruiting a smoother process

They are thinking Jeff Traylor.

He was coaching high school in 2014 and does not have any coordinator experience in college.

He has UTSA 9-0 right now.

You know who Traylor is winning with....kids that were recruited by FRANK WILSON!

I lived in Cedar Hill for about 10 years, including when Mcguire took over. He's a good coach, and I think he could do well at TTU if given time. As for the kids in the photo just happening to go to Cedar Hill, not sure what you mean. Cedar Hill, as well as nearby Duncanville, are huge schools with a lot of talented athletes in their feeder jr highs.

Cedar Hill is a predominantly African American community.

Is this him?

Or maybe him? He’s not a good coach, . . .

If Hocut hired the baseball and basketball coach then I don't think he's an idiot.

No idea if they’re all from CH but that area has been loaded with talent for years with CH, DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster all separated by a few miles.

I'll go out on a safe limb here and say 93 percent of legendary high school coaches cheated by recruiting

whoever thinks that's not true is from Pluto

It’s a really good hire for Texas Tech man. I’m not sure what you’re thinking. Mcquire is connected in the state better than almost anybody. Numerous high schools in the state and people are raving about this hire. I think he’ll actually be able to recruit kids to go out to Lubbock. Also what the hell does not playing college football have to do with anything? Mike Leach was a lawyer for gods sake. Mcquire is also a really good defensive mind. People have been raving about Joey Mcquire at Baylor for years now. One of the big reasons Baylor has been great even with Rhule, and Dave. So you’re missing quite a bit on this one.

It comes down to recruiting the state of Texas.

McGuire is well-liked being a former TXHS coach.

They'll also cheat the butts off.

James Blanchard is McGuire's right hand man at Tech now. They will blur the lines.

Your position is:

1. This coach was a good recruiter in high school (likely because of skirting the rules)

2. This means he won't be a good recruiter in college?

Aren't those statements a little contradictory?

when you're in the desert, you don't fire your HC for being 5-3

first rule

no kids from the Pine Country or hill country want to go to Lubbock, and no kids from Lubbock want to stay in Lubbock, and yet this AD banks his hopes on "Texas contacts"?

he's the same guy who fired Kingsbury, and then Kingsbury got the Arizona Cardinals jobs a month later

this AD is a former player who's one of those legend in his own mind guys. He wishes he'd become a coach, but he was too scared, so he became a pencil pusher instead and jacks off on firing people he is jealous of

yeah right no, they're not
