They both may feel like the ceiling has been reached and only one way to go at those schools, down.

Then why haven't they shown interest in any other openings yet?

Well, they just played yesterday, and it is Sunday, so I am guessing he will meet with Rich Rod tomorrow or Tuesday and make a decision. The timing of the Stanford game is key too.

Yeah, good use of common sense Chickenman. Tuesday or Wednesday seems to be the day, possibly as late as Thursday.

I think it is interesting how this entire situation is playing out...you have several schools being held hostage by this...plus, you have Rich Rod flapping in the wind, not knowing his fate. And why would he have a clause in his contract that reduces his buyout if he gets released after Jan 1?

It is obvious that Harbaugh is jumping ship since he has been so quiet, unless he is trying to get more money from Stanford.

Malzahn

Tubberville

Well, as a self-proclaimed NegaTiger. And one who usually sides against Miles. I would not be comfortable using that list to replace Miles.

Because the buyout amount is a function of the amount left to be paid him under the contract. It's a calendar year contract, so at the end of each calendar year, the buyout is reduced to an amount that corresponds (though not necessarily dollar-for-dollar) to the salary remaining to be paid under the contract.

if his team as good as it is now in 2 years, then he'll be in the bcs title game.
maybe not...do you think that a TCU from the Big East would have gone to the BCS title game this year with Oregon and Auburn being as good as they are?

An undefeated team from the Big East will still have trouble making the title game if there are undefeated teams from the stronger BCS conferences.

Yep. And despite the verbal diarrhea from the ESPN talking heads, a Big East team that goes undefeated and doesn't include some serious OOC wins in its resume should have trouble making the title game ahead of strong conference teams with one loss.

perhaps so...this was just a list of coaches that would realistically jump at the LSU job.

He hired Chavis and got rid of the co-DC.
Yes he did, and I am glad. But he also created the problem to begin with by taking that less-traveled road and hiring the infamous Malveto twins as co-DCs. Not a bash, but an observation. Sometimes the less-traveled road can be good, like the gambles he takes in defiance of all coaching logic; many times they pay off and make watching LSU football a lot of fun. But sometimes they blow up.

The thing is, Les' view of the relevant future, unlike that of the typical LSU fan, goes beyond what happens in the next 15 minutes.

Isn't Pelini butting heads with the AD at Nebraska?

I think he'd jump. But hopefully he won't have the chance. Above all else, we need to keep Wilson, Cooper, Brick worst case scenario

I guess that would be true, or he'd have bailed out a couple of years ago. I like the guy, and am glad he's here, but he does defy any and all of my best efforts to understand his viewpoint and methods.

It's interesting how they designed it that way, the buyout. It has now fallen from $4M to I believe $2.5M.

As for JH, you are on da money. He's gone either way, I would say either SF or Michigan. Balas with Michigan wants to just say that JH is a done deal but can't IMO. He says he will "spell everything out" after it happens.

I think he would probably jump. Honestly I'd prefer Leach or Malzahn + a solid DC over Pelini.Just my opinion........

I understand what you're saying. I just think a list of those, who would likely jump at the LSU job. Illustrates that we could be in a much worse situation without Miles than with him.

I think we could do a lot worse than those three I listed...I wouldn't lose any sleep if we had hired any of them.

I think Leach and Malzahn fit LSU about like Rich Rod fits Michigan, and who knows with Tubberville.

Chris Peterson??? Dirk Kuetter and DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL guy...is there a trend?

I like Whittingham at Utah, but I'm not sold.

I think Sarkiasin has won with players who look more like they should be playing for John Curtis than in the PAC-10. But he sure has gotten blown out a lot.

Gary Patterson...i doubt it.

I know I'm missing some, but who else is there that is not a coordinator?

There is a UM team meeting (was already scheduled before the bowl game) for Tues 1/4 at 7 AM. I don't think Brandon has been idle for this "quiet period" just evaluating RR. Any CEO has a list of 5 replacements for his top guys, Brandon has those lists for all his head coaching jobs. I supect each agent has been contacted and that interest and general details have already been outlined. When they let RR go, I suspect the immediate announcement of the new coach, no search, no flying around interviewing, just a hire.

What we could (and probably would) do a LOT worse than is the one we have.
