Right, he signed up to coach with an offense that struggled to move the ball and leaves his defense out on the field

I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that we did well in Miles's tenure in TOP.

Maybe. And I'd hope we'd make it really hard for him to leave if the new HC doesn't bring his own DC. But if Aranda is ambitious and wants to learn under different, successful coaches, I'm not sure he sticks around to coach under Orgeron if that's who we wind up with for example. And the coaching community is very close--he may have heard that Jimbo is a huge a-hole to work for and that their styles wouldn't be a good fit.

I hope he's here next year and think he probably will be. But to not prepare for his potential departure--or anybody's on the staff, frankly--would be a short-sighted mistake.

Always possible, sure. We shouldn't just assume that. Money talks. And if we can get Herman or Jimbo I'm sure he'll get along with them fine as long as the checks keep getting signed. If its an @sshole like Kiffin or Petrino then he may be gone.

Are you honestly this fricking stupid? Nobody is assuming anything, just suggesting we be prepared. That is smart. Assuming he automatically stays and not having a contingency plan is fricking stupid. How can you not grasp this?

I guess it is possible, but I think that would be extreme situation, especially if the admin and new coach was begging you to stay.

Damn Chicken this is definitely not a post I wanted to see. If that happens it will suck. 3 DC in 3 years!!!! I guess you are hearing something. I pretty much know Aranda isn't that long for LSU in the first place as I am sure he wants to be a HC sometime soon. I guess I was just hoping he would be at LSU for at least 3 years. Alleva really screwed the pooch with Chavis all that man every wanted to be was a DC and look what he is doing at TAMU, what a bone head mistake on Alleva's part.

From the OP

Well if he leaves then you get a new f*cking DC. Todd Grantham is doing great at Louisville, we could probably get him.

Aranda signed up to coach under Miles. No guarantee that he'll want to work with the next coach

Aranda likely saw enough of Miles' pathetic offense with front row seats on the sideline.

He has to have zero confidence that a Miles O could put up enough points to keep the pressure of winning games off of his D every game.

Well that's what this thread is about, isn't it? Assumptions? You think he would have came here if it weren't for a raise? Of course, he came because he heard how awesome Miles is as a coach. Don't be silly, he came for more money. We all know you're BFF with Miles for life, but coaches just go where the money is. Just like any other profession.

And you don't think Texas could offer him as much if Herman goes there?

Are you being intentionally obtuse? It's called contingency.

If LSU were to land Herman or Fisher I think both would be thrilled to have him continue. If we landed Patterson somehow then I think it becomes a non issue whether or not Arranda stays. If it is some other name then I have no clue.

Would he be thrilled to stay, though? Would he not be more thrilled somewhere else? Coaching isn't indentured servitude.

Jim Leavitt is doing a hell of a job at Colorado.

Indentured servitude? WTF are you talking about? You just said in the other post that why would Texas not pay as much? Have they? Why wouldn't you think Herman would bring his DC that's doing a very good job in Houston with him? Its ALL about money and prestige, and at LSU he's getting both. He has the talent to make his job easier and he's getting paid more than the last place he was at. If he goes to Austin to make more money with Herman then fine, I just don't see him leaving for anywhere else unless he becomes a head coach because we have and will continue to get top DC's because we are willing to pay them.

His next logical move if to get a head coaching gig. He could make a lateral jump to be DC of another major program before that but it seems unlikely.

Every time you move you have to move your family, establish relationships with dozens of high school coaches and their kids and figure how to maximize your talent available. The more realistic concern IMO is LSU loses him between 2017 and 2019 because someone wants him as their head coach - similar to what Jimbo did at LSU after the Saban to Miles transition.

The OP's question seems 1 to 3 years premature, but not something you can predict until you know who will be the new HC.

With his salary and NFL caliber talent to work with, he can, and likely will, turn down some HC offers until the right situation comes along. We will probably match any DC offers thrown at him.
