Yeah he's had one good season

Very underwhelming

One nice win and another high scoring game against Syracuse that got out of hand. Just a silly game both teams scored a ton

He's pretty good. He's done pretty well with a talent disadvantage.

Not some home run by any means, but he'll be an improvement over what we're used to.

Whatever, we hired Ed fricking Orgeron to be our head coach. Nothing really matters anymore.

Canada would be a homerun hire. Kiffin would have been a splash hire, but would have been a disaster.

But he absolutely can be considered one of the best OC's in the country who would legitimately come to LSU at this point.

He wasn't fired because he wasn't good. He did not see eye to eye with the HC and their offense regressed a lot after he left.

Because he's overated as frick by this board due to 2 games this season.

Then he's perfect for us at LSU. I predict hes our man. Boring and lazy as usual.

Yeah I mean you can only play the games on your schedule

I'm not melting over him but he's more around 3-5 range of practical wish list

As a Tiger fan that lives in Raleigh, NC and watched Canada's offenses at NC State for years (all the way up until he was FIRED JUST LAST YEAR).... NO THANKS. Dude just caught lightening in a bottle at Pitt. I want a guy who has a proven track record of a top offense over the course of a few years

I think even Ensminger would have set offensive numbers up with their schedule

Heck he even did it against a down SEC schedule when not facing two legit D's

Prior to NC State, Canada was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wisconsin during the 2012 season. Led by All-America running back Montee Ball, the Badgers averaged 236.4 rushing yards per game to rank 13th nationally. Ball, who rushed for 1,830 yards and 22 touchdowns, was named the recipient of the prestigious Doak Walker Award, annually presented to the nation's top running back.

Canada's offense exploded in the 2012 Big Ten Championship Game, a 70-31 rout of Nebraska, to earn the Badgers a trip to the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin had two 200-yard rushers for the first time in school history as it piled up 539 yards on the ground and 640 total against the Cornhuskers. In addition to Ball, the Wisconsin backfield also included James White and future Doak Walker winner Melvin Gordon.

In 2011, Canada was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for a Northern Illinois team that averaged nearly 40 points per game en route to an 11-3 record and the Mid-American Conference championship. The Huskies finished in the nation's top 12 in scoring (12th, 38.3 ppg.), total offense (11th, 476.0 avg.) and rushing offense (12th, 234.1 avg.). Quarterback Chandler Harnish was named the MAC's Most Valuable Player and ranked ninth nationally in total offense (328.2 avg.).

Canada had two stints at Northern Illinois, also serving on the Huskies staff from 1998-2003. He oversaw NIU's running backs (1998-2000) and quarterbacks (2001-02) before elevating to offensive coordinator in 2003. NIU's 2003 team upset Alabama, Maryland and Iowa State in earning a No. 12 Associated Press ranking. Canada's offense featured All-America running back Michael Turner, who averaged 137.3 rushing yards per game to rank second in the country.

From 2004-10, Canada coached quarterbacks at Indiana. He was the Hoosiers' offensive coordinator his final four seasons (2007-10) after serving as passing game coordinator for two years (2005-06). The 2007 Hoosiers posted a school-record 412 points in earning an invitation to the Insight Bowl, the program's first postseason game in 14 years.

Canada coached two of the most prolific quarterbacks in IU history in Ben Chappell and Kellen Lewis. The duo still ranks highly in various school passing categories. Chappell holds Indiana career records for completions (651) and completion percentage (.611), while ranking third in touchdown passes (45) and passing yards (7,251). Lewis holds the season record for touchdown passes (28) and ranks second with 48 career TD passes

Most people don't know this, but that line was actually a shot at current Arkansas HC, Brett Bielema. Brett was Matt Canada's boss at Wisconsin in 2012 and apparently didn't allow Matt control of his offense. There was a power struggle over the reigns.

quote:

Prior to the Big Ten Conference title game against Nebraska, Canada went in to talk to former UW coach Bret Bielema and at long last put his foot down. Sink or swim, it was time for Canada to do things his way.

Numerous UW sources said Canada's decision to stand up to Bielema was a significant factor in the offensive outburst that followed. The Badgers amassed 640 yards, including 539 on the ground, in the 70-31 victory over Nebraska on Dec. 1, sending UW to the Rose Bowl where it will face Stanford on Tuesday.

The brilliant game plan stands as a crowning achievement in Canada's 21 seasons in college coaching, but it wouldn't have happened if he had not fought for the things he believed in.

Not saying he's better than Kiffin but I didn't want Kiffin because he most likely would have only stayed 1 year. I'd be happy with Canada or Helfrich. Dream scenario would be Briles but the rape stuff is just too much of a black eye.

Before you bash the guy, he had Montee Ball at Wisconsin and it's not like he's had any better QB's at these other schools.
I can't even name Pitt's QB this year but the scoring they put up in every game this year is impressive especially in the ACC.

I think Canada would do fine but if you want "the best OC out there" and you want "a qb who can both run and throw" then you turn your offense over to the guy who designed and implemented the offense that broke Chip Kelly records. Period. Mark Helfrich is just a better hire and I want the best

Well said sir

Canada's scoring offenses by year -

2012 - 59th
2013 - 99th
2014 - 57th
2015 - 42nd
2016 - 10th

Canada's red zone efficiency for his offenses by year -

2012 - 63rd (81%)
2013 - 101st (76.9%)
2014 - 41st (86.5%)
2015 - 53rd (85.2%)
2016 - 10th (92.7%)

Additionally, here's his 3rd down conversion percentage by year -

2012 - 94th (35.57%)
2013 - 81st (38.3%)
2014 - 26th (45.8%)
2015 - 51st (41.1%)
2016 - 27th (43.%)

People seem to be attracted to the deception and variation his offenses seem to employ before the snap...but if you look at the numbers, you can't assert that Canada is anything more than an average coordinator.
