Riley would be totally different here. He would get better athletes on the defensive side of the ball than what he has at OK. This is what has killed them in the play offs. He is one of the top offensive coaches in college football why wouldn't you want him here?
You have to pick your poison on a coaching hire. Go with someone like Aranda and you have a chance of the offense struggling and getting out scored every game.
I want to see a coach that's at the very least is a very smart guy that doesn't get out schemed game after game on both sides of the ball. This was Miles and O weakness, you can't line up the best athletes now days and expect to win.

This is a new era of college football. I'm sure eventually there will be innovations or rule changes to level the field for defenses but at this moment it's an offensive game. You don't have to like it but for now hires have to reflect that.
But I still have trouble seeing how a deal would work with OU in playoff contention. His agent can't accept the deal on his behalf. Riley himself has to be involved at some point and waiting till January seems too risky.

Serious question: what one thing did both Miles and Orgeron have in common that thus far in his career Riley has yet to have....besides a national championship?
A conference championship at his first Head Coaching job.
OK, that's not true. Riley has 4 conference championships.

I just want people to name another place he has been successful at.
He’s 38 years old. How many other places do you expect a guy that young to have been? But if you insist, his offenses at East Carolina broke or set 38 offensive school records and the offense was ranked in the top 10 nationally for all 4 seasons he was their OC

And neither took over a program that is a pile of manure right now and as bad as when Saban became coach at LSU.
It will take a great coach 2 - 4 seasons to fix this mess.

Riley fits the criteria that lead to the two most successful coaches in LSU program history - proven winner at a P5 Program.
Riley at OU
Overall 53–8 0.803
Bowls 1–3
Tournaments 0–3 (CFP)
Saban at MSU
Overall 34-24 .585
Bowls 0-2
No BCS appearances
Miles at OSU
Overall 28-21 0.571
Bowls 1-2
No BCS appearances
Just based on track record for LSU's two best hires since OU's last NC, Riley exceeds both.

According to the retards on this board, the only acceptable hires for this job are:
Saban
Dabo
Retaining Ed O
Literally the only current active college HCs with a Championship.

So let me guess, you want Napier the guy who dominates one of the toughest conferences in CF.

Riley really dominates…
No, the guy made it a point that Riley broke all these records… so did Napier.
Idc who we get as long as we win national championships. Just want people to defend their reason for Riley because all I’ve heard is excuses for his performances. He is at a Blue Blood program and consistently gets over ranked by the press which has always helped him. He has the luxury of the media saying yearly… “OU looks like a complete team” and not facing SEC talent level teams. No meat grinder like the SEC.

Apparently reading comprehension is not your strong suit. But without a good defense LSU loses either Florida or Auburn that year. Never said that it was the defense....but when you have first rounders like we did....

You said defense wins championships then described a team that won on offense. Apparently writing is not your strong suit.
