Miami negatives No fans, Thugs, swagga, Urban
Not a state U.
Positives - Good team but brings nothing to the table
Nothing in common with SEC members. We need big state Universities

Why don't we want them in the SEC?
It's just that they bring nothing to the SEC. I have nothing against Miami but they can't even sell out their own home games.

Miami's ability to compete in the long term is questionable. They don't have the resources that most SEC schools have. They don't have a strong alumni base who give lots of money and keep pressure on the University to have good results.
Look at what happened when they fired Coker; instead of conducting a nationwide search and shelling out big bucks for the best head coach available, they hired an assistant from Coker's mediocre regime who was available at a modest price. And as long as Randy keeps winning seven or eight games a year, they won't fire him. Donna Shalala doesn't really care that much about football, and there is no reason ($$) why she should.
"Da U" is a small private school who can't sell out home games (home games played in a mixed-use corporate-named stadium far from their campus) or generate booster donations, so there is little need for them to spend their limited funds on big-time facilities or big-time coaches. They do have a natural recruiting advantage, being in Miami, but that can only get you so much. It wouldn't surprise me to see the University further de-emphasize football in the future.

Is it because their fanbase sucks? Is it because they were THUG U?
This. Would much rather have FSU if we get another Florida team.

I used to hate Miami when I saw people in LA wearing the jacket. Made me sick and I'd tell em so.
Since the '05 40-3 stomping, I think all those jackets were sold in yard sales or burned by the fairweathers.
That nationwide appeal has fallen off, although they usually have a decent BB squad. The U would just become a doormat in SEC FB anyway.

Small private institution, fanbase sucks, and they have openly said that they don't want to fund athletics to be competitive at the highest level. They will be second rate as long as Shalala is in charge.

they have the ability to win championship.
They have been in a downward spiral ever since joining the ACC because their president feels that they should not put money into athletics. The SEC does not need programs that aren't committed to being great.

A lot of people don't understand that. Their athletic department brings in nothing, and are often in serious financial trouble. Right now, they are down to funding only 12 varsity sports. There is no desire to maintain success.

The negatives are multiple and most have already been listed. I just can't think of any positives.
Now, for my regional bias. Miami is anything but a Southern school from a cultural perspective. It is a program built up by importing thugs from the ghettos of the metro area. This will always be an aspect of their success despite efforts to clean up their image.
I would be much more pleased with UNC, VT, aTm, Clemson, or Ga Tech...Even FSU.

What's the deal? Seems like if we're talking ratings, Miami would bring them...even if it isn't from people in Miami.
Where would these ratings come from? Miami doesn't have a very active fan base. The purchase of Miami products is based on a 20 year old renegade team, and worn by kids who have no interest in college football. They don't have a football stadium and the city of Miami will not be a "Miami market."

Dirty gets it. Donna does not support athletics at all.
