How exactly? As far as I see, Baylor still has top notched education. How does the education change due to the conference? How does the student athlete for fencing get offended? People with no chance at going pro, who are considered pure "student athletes", shouldn't give a shite about what conference their in; they should care about how to get the best education on the free.

Another valid point...

I don't think I'm the best person to answer that question...

I think Kim Mulky might have your answers and I believe it when she says that the student athlete is going to be effected in a negative way...that's why I'm intrigued by her quote...and looking for other articles/quotes that expand on this...hence the original post...

I think she fears being put in a subpar conference. It will effect/affect (damn LSU education) her bottom dollar, recruiting, program status, etc. There are arguements to why this completely screws Baylor as a university...it all deals with money. Crappier conference means less of it. Her arguement is a veiled attempt to put a hot amber on the conference officials/texas politicians. If Baylor is left out, I have no doubt it will hamper them, but none of it has to do with the "student athlete" in the pure context she is trying to use.

I apoligize. I'm not intending to be an arse to you directly. I just can't stand this type of grandstanding by universities. Call it what it is.

You're right...we "pretend" that College FOOTBALL is different from the Pro's because it's about the game...we turn a blind eye on Saturday's and consider it to be a pure game...of sorts.

Who in the world does that? College athletics, especially football, is a business. Anyone who doesn't believe that has their head up their academic arse.

First of all, college wrestling is not a feeder to the WWE - just needed to get that out of the way.

To your point, the one's that make it to the pro's are the one's that deserve to be there. How are the others getting fricked?

The one's on scholarship get free tuition, room and board, the opportunity to travel around the country, and in some cases the world, and they get an education. If that is 'getting fricked', then sign me up.

No, because the atletes are not 'paid'.

But that does not mean that it's not a business.

If you operate on a budget, charge for goods and services, have a payroll, and expect to be profitable...then you are a business.

Um - then why did YOU originally say that?

The bottomline is that Baylor was given the kin folk deal to be included in the formation of the Big XII even though it didn't really belong in the conference ever.

So now that the Big XII is disolving, there are no kin folk in the Pac Ten that want anything to do with Baylor. So, hello Sunbelt or Conf USA.

But The Rock and Brandon Carter say college football is.

Asked for comments about the latest developments, Baylor Lady Bears basketball coach Kim Mulkey said: "This is a classic example of greed and the all-mighty dollar. It starts with people who make decisions at Nebraska and Texas. For people who talk about academics, this is not about what's in the best interest of each student-athlete or the Big 12. It's about money.

perfectly true

but they'd be singing a different song if Baylor had muscled their way in and left Colorado out of the potential PAC 16
