But that's just the way it seems to be playing out.
I told all the KU brethren to do the cool thing and go indie. I've been drinking since I woke up, so I'm in tune right now.

I would feel sorry for them if anyone in the state of Misery would give a frick about college sports at all. They have an absolutely pathetic fanbase in the St Louis area. Cardinals baseball and Rams football is all that matters in that city.

I forgot to add A&M to that list... yes, its a weaker FB division, but a much stronger basketball division than now and it has larger markets

Don't. They did this to themselves by bitching about their bowl bids. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.
But I still think they land on their feet in the Big-10 West with KU and NU, as well as Minny, Wiscy, Iowa, Illinois and Northwestern.

so you kansas fans think ksu is a non issue? they won't limit where KU decides to go?
Posted on 6/12/10 at 8:42 pm to molsusports
I think the KS board of Regents is smart enough to realize that it is better for the state to have at least one flagship institution in one of the premier conferences than to have two Mountain West teams.
KU is an AAU member and has one nationally-recognized marquis program and others that are respectable. KSU is an ag school that is hit or miss in every sport depending on the quality of coaching that happens to fall into their lap. KU is half an hour from a major metropolitan area. KSU is half an hour from some really good pheasant hunting, but that's about it.

There are mixed feelings. We'd like to stay with them because it's an in-state rival, but we'd also like to stay with MU as well because it is the 2nd-most-played rivalry in college football.

I agree. I think it's more important to play MU and NU every year (schools within a three-hour drive) than it is to play KSU or anyone south of Wichita.

I couldn't have put it any better, but...
The governor is pushing for the two to remain together to preserve the "Sunflower Showdown" and to continue awarding the winner the Governor's Cup.
Not that the governor's opinion matters in this issue, but that's what I read on lawrence.com (I think that was the site).

Right. I'm not going to bash K-State too much because my brother--sad to say--is attending school there.
I really don't care about that. I'm just glad he's in school.

between that and the Kansas AD talking about how important it was for schools like KU, KSU (and MU and Neb) to stick together - some important folks would have to do some very public backtracking if KU bails on KSU
Posted on 6/12/10 at 8:55 pm to brad8504
Yeah, if he was a real governor with serious aspirations like Perry down in Texas, he might matter. But he's just a lame duck filling out Sebelius' term. I don't think he has much pull.
RockChalkTalk has had some decent threads on this. They seem to think the Pac-10 has some real interest, but I think that's just smoke to get A&M off the fence.

Lew Perkins is a disgrace to KU, and I'm glad that bastard is leaving next year. Gale Sayers needs to take over as AD. He's already on the athletic department staff doing shite with fundraising or something like that. He's a philanthropist, too.
Posted on 6/12/10 at 8:57 pm to RockChalkTiger
the way it looks to me - kansas is the pac's #6 desired school right now and they only have room for 5 (utah, texas, ou, ok state, texas tech)

I've been reading some of it, and if I recall correctly, is it Stanford pushing for KU to join the Pac-10?

Another lame duck. Perkins has already announced his retirement next year. It's not his problem.
I think all this caught the Chancellor a little off guard (first year on the job and missed the Big-12 meeting while she was touring Europe!) but I think she's got some decent people that got her engaged pretty quickly.

Agree 100%. He's as shady as they come. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he was on the take in this ticket scheme, or at least let it go with a nod and a wink. He may be retiring, but he was fired.

Yeah, I think it was them. Maybe Lawrence is a better fit "culturally" than College Station. They don't want to be the only liberals in the Pac-16. Lawrence, Boulder, Berkeley and Austin actually have a lot in common. College Station, Lubbock and Stillwater not so much.
