re: Mizzou Ducks Issue With Big 12

As someone that just went through the same thing...I would not start to worry unless the end of the week comes around and there is still no withdrawl from Mizzou.
You did not issue a statement today saying anything positive about the Big 12, which is good news...but A&M was 100% gone as of sometime in mid August. There were reports that we'd be Independent in 2012 before we'd remain in the Big 12, no matter what happened with the SEC. In other words, NOTHING the Big 12 could offer, even shelving the LHN, would have gotten us to stay at that point.
The important question is- what could the Big 12 offer Deaton to get Mizzou to stay? You better hope that the answer is literally nothing, because if it is not, things could go the way of A&M in Summer 2010: re-committing to the Big Joke.

The Mizzou fans in my office in Jeff City half arse care about what's going on. It's known I am a SEC team fan and you hear almost no talk about them leaving. Hell my boss is a Mizzou grad and doesn't talk about it unless I bring it up.
I am Missouri born and attended Mizzou for a year and a half, but as an SEC fan in the target territory I don't see the "passion" for the SEC that the posters on here claim.
I don't know what is going on behind closed doors and I am sure the KC congressmen are making lots of noise. If Mizzou truly has to wait one more year regardless then the timing isn't so urgent.

Well the thousands of fans that have supposedly been messaging the curators and administrators and everyone I know is excited about the SEC. Most posters I read are also excited from what I can tell.
Maybe your boss and people there are just not getting their hopes up because Deaton and Aldon are so good at screwing a good thing up.
Taking Mr. Deaton at his word he said next year they would be playing elsewhere if they left. I think it could just be a matter of dotting the I's and crossing the T's before an announcement can be made. I do hope so. It also may be he is getting more details set up with the SEC before he sends the letter to leave the Big 12.

Part of this may also be the Big 12 finding a way to get WVU or Louisville to start in 2012, in which case they are much more agreeable to let Mizzou go without any "legal" issues.
If the Big 12 is forced to go with 9 teams in 2012 and 2013 (which is what the BE's 27 month wait would do), then the Big 12 is likely not going to do Mizzou any favors in the exit process.

Don't they lose the AQ status if this happens? If so they will not give a reach around when screwing Mizzou.

According to Bill Self and the the quote leaked today they would be better off without Mizzou so why hold them up? Is Baylor waving the sue you flag again?

That's true and on top of that when has the Big 12 ever done anyone favors except Texas to begin with?
Someone else posted on a different board that the New TV contract they signed requires 10 teams playing for it to be valid. If that's so and they can't get the Big east teams in time for next year they may be working to get something done before MU announces they're leaving.

This seems to be the biggest confirmation so far that Mizzou is SEC bound:

COLUMBIA - Fresh off a Monday night flight from Dallas, MU Chancellor Brady Deaton commented on his meeting with the Big 12 Board of Directors saying, "I wish them [the Big 12] the best and all that, so we'll see where that goes."
KOMU 8 caught up with Deaton has he arrived on a commerical flight into Columbia Regional Airport Monday.
"There's no delays here at all. There's some very specific things that have to be adressed. We want to address those," said Deaton. "We really can't rush these things. These are things you can't rush. I know fans get impatient I gotta say I'm very sympathetic. What I hope they will understand that this is not a set of issues that one can just press a button and be done with it. There are some issues that have to be adressed on behalf of the University of Missouri and that's what we're doing, looking out for the University of Missouri."
When asked if he had the needed votes from the SEC presidents for an invite he replied, "I'll let them speak for themselves, we're reasonably clear about where we stand."

Saw that...and I agree.
I think the "issues" are exactly what we've speculated on in this thread.
I think the WORST case scenario is that Mizzou is forced to stick around one more year in the Big 12...but that doesn't mean the official announcement that they're heading to the SEC won't be this week.

IMO, the KC issue is the hanging chad.

The KC thing is easy. The SEC doesn't care about them playing a game in KC.From everything I've heard over the weekend the holdup aside from some smaller issues is them being allowed to leave immediately and not wait the extra year. The SEC wants them on next years schedule. There are possible embarrassing scenarios that could happen with a 13 team schedule breakdown.

Woudln't it be pretty easy to get Nebraska to play Mizzou in KC?
Former rivals, boarder state, etc etc. Would be more appealing to the casual fan than watching you play freaking KANSAS.
And why does KC lose out on Big 12 stuff if Mizzou leaves? Aren't the Kansas schools a few hours away, and in the same state as part of the city?

This what I said to my co-workers today. Close for both and I know they will fill the stands
KC will need to work for the B12 BBall tourney, but it's a B12 problem not a Mizzou problem, imo.

I have been following this pretty closely and I don't think KC is a hangup here. I think it has to do with the Big 12's TV deal and what happens if/when they drop below 10 teams for at least a season if not two. If they invite BYU it's not an issue, but with the Big East teams its a big one.

From Dallas Morning News Twitter:
@ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Hearing from Big 12 school sources that Missouri, Big 12 are negotiating legal issues, including departure date (2012 or '13) and exit fees.
But Tigers are clearly gone at this point. Only question is when, maybe within a week. West Virginia has become strong leading candidate.

K.C. isnt the problem. The problem is the Big XII is trying to stick us on the exit fee and trying to get us to stay for the 2012 Season. We obviously want to be gone by then. They probably fighting that hard to keep us for that year, because the Big East schools they want to replace us with can not leave for 2 years. The fact is thought that we are leaving.

quote:I think enough has been said about Missouri officials, et al, wanting the B1G first. Which means the SEC is runner-up for at least some of y'all. But the SEC doesn't play second fiddle easily, or second-choice. Too much coyness to suit me from official circles. Too much like, "Oh well, there's always the SEC" kind of feel to this impending marriage to suit me.
Nothing is saying Missouri doesn't want to be in the SEC.
