Why? They've only been in a conference together for a few years. And the whole reason VT exists is as an F You to UVa (and William & Mary -- the two schools were fighting who got to be the land grant school and couldn't agree, so they plucked some obscure school in SW Virginia to be the land grant as a compromise... I love state politics)

Making a quick edit in the OP.

Van Pelt actually said "SEC sources."

Why? Not surprisingly, we entirely disagree. I passionately do not want Texas, the destroyer of conferences.

It's like NSD...only with schools as "players" and conferences as "teams"

I am still waiting for the AD who approaches the podium with a bunch of different conference's hats on the table

We'll probably have to wait for LSUPhreak to fark it properly

I blame the former Gov of Virginia that pretty much demanded VT to come to the ACC.

Someone from VA was alluding to the fact that the VA legislature wouldn't allow them to go to different conferences. Any truth to that?

Why did the SEC stay quiet all this time and now near D-day, look like they are scrambling for sub-par pieces in an effort keep up?

Originally folks in teh state legislature of Virginia blocked Va Tech from consideration - then alumni from Va Tech got involved and had the government force Va Tech in.

I just figured the Virginia alumni would have enough juice to return the favor if Va Tech decided to go to another conference

I believe so. When the ACC raided the Big Least, we (the ACC) wanted Boston College, Miami and Syracuse. VT told Syracuse that they wouldn't go and they would join in a lawsuit that Syracuse was going to file. When the offer was then taken from Syracuse, VT took the offer and left Syracuse in the dust.

UT folks are not at all interested in joining the SEC, hence the reason they ARE going to the Pac-10. Geographically, it is retarded, but oh well.

UVa and VT despise one another like no two schools on earth. I really mean that. It's not an athletic rivalry, it's a school rivalry. It's impossible to imagine two more different schools from the same state. While I'm not up on Virginia politics, I think VT could bolt the ACC. It's not like they have a bridge to burn.
