As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Drunkenstein has failed in his main point of this thread.
Mark this one as another in a long list of others on Tigerdroppings.com as "talking out of one's arse".

I think Texas is taking an easier path in way of the new Pac10. I can't fathom how UT alums can support that decision. West coast football is glit and glamore and their fans treat is as much. I watched a USC game next to lady that brought chocolate covered strawberries and Perrier for refreshment. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it's hardly gameday food in Norman or Austin.

Texas will only play one game a year in the Pacific time zone so the 2 hour time difference is no big deal
Then why even join the Pac 10, if you're only keeping Oklahoma as the one decent game, yall are just rubberstamping a 10 win season against lackluster opponents. This is why the perception is that yall want nothing more than to play weak competition to pad your win numbers. Continue to play the Baylors, Texas Techs and now the Ariz States of the world I guess.

UT is just different, they don't understand and don't fit our culture, all of this reminds me of this.LINK

What about the mens and womens basketball teams or the baseball and softball teams, the track and field teams? The athletic conference is more than just football. Football is the big player as far as money making goes and with a limited number of games each year, they could afford to travel to europe to play if they had to. But the rest of the teams, especially the ones who have to play nearly every other team in the conference annually, how do you justify travel expenses for the womens basketball team to fly to the west coast 3-4 times a year?

SEC fans overwhelmingly don't want Texas in the SEC event though Texas would make it a better conference. Obviously, they are afraid to play the Longhorns.
Bigger is in better but not in Texas case, The school officials have one small set of balls

Personally I can't wait for Texas to come to the S.E.C. to become the Kentucky (football) of the west.I believe with the lack luster schedule they play year in and year out, they won't even see a S.E.C. championship for at least 5 yrs.And that is with Bama and Aweburn going east....

Enough said. Nothing else can explain their behavior. Im an LSU fan, but not so much a fan of your average SEC fan.

For the record, I feel that all the Texas fans I have ever met were extreme cocksuckers (kind of like Florida fans), but that's not saying I don't want them in the SEC. I don't think they fit well due to geographical location and the fact that I don't think their huge egos could take not being the big dog on the block year in and year out.

Like I said all over this board, Texas isn't going West out of fear or to pad its numbers. The president of Texas is a Cal alum and he has always had a thing for getting Texas in to a conference with Cal & Stanford. To him, that is bliss.....so away we go.....

See my above post. I really would like to hear your opinion on that. To me it just doesn't add up, maybe you could offer some insight?

No offense intended here but I'll tell you what I have gathered.
As a program, the SEC does respect UT and its accomplishments. If it was as simple as that, then yes most SEC fans would roll out the red carpet for you.
However, when you take into consideration the overwhelming sense entitlement and arrogance that the school and fans have that would come with that great program, most people are inclined to say, "No thanks."
UT has the propensity for wanting to be the big dog and call all the shots. In the SEC that would not happen; there are already too many well established powers.
So yes, most people will agree Texas is an elite program with an even more elitist attitude and will likely want to come in and make it all about Texas. That is the reason most SEC fans are not buying into it.

So the former zip code of horn President is going to dictate the entire future of UTex and hundreds of thousands of horns? BS. I don't buy that for a second. Dodds, the Board of Regents, countless donors, and yes--politicians, all have a dog in this fight as well. Whittling the situation down to the opinion of one guy is an oversimplification--one I don't believe for a second.

I'll tell you something... you can look up my posts in the SEC Rant. I've spoken out in favor of bringing Texas in to the SEC. I thought it was a no brainer.
But you know what? My opinion of Texas has changed because of this whole realignment process and discussion.
Only now to I have a clear view of exactly how insidious Texas is, regarding it's "partners" (read: puppets) in the Big XII. Only now do I understand exactly how Texas views other schools, particularly in the SEC, and my opinion now... is that I don't want Texas in our league, because if its arrogrance and basic inability to treat others as equals.
The SEC may set the bar for hatred in college sports, but at least we respect each other at the end of the day.
And that's what won me over about A&M. I have respect for them now, where I didn't before. Because now I see how hard it is to stand up to Texas' bullying in the Big XII.
All that this process has done for me is change my opinion of Texas for the worse. And I used to like UT.

false, i'd like texas, A&M, OU (and if necessary) Ok state
when bama and auburn moved to the east division the difficulty of schedules in the west would end up largely unchanged anyway

so, one man, whose team got owned by one team in a week conference decided yall could be the big dog out there now. And is arranging it so that yall won't really have to play that one team, or travel. Texas is looking to play subpar competition, not have to travel, not have to play a Championship game and still get a BCS bid. That wreaks of wanting to be carp in a small pond full of bream.

The 6-12 teams in the current SEC would hurt Texas' record, because Texas plays soft under Mack Brown for many games---despite having the talent.
