Looks like it’s wide open for business. Thinking of going to MX City for a week.

Will be in Mexico City in March so I’m keeping an eye on it. Looks pretty open at the moment.

I was in Mexico City two weeks ago for 5 days. Went to pyramid of the sun and then did the summit of Nevado De Toluca.

Same. Cozumel and Isla Mujeres last year, Cabo earlier this summer, and going back to Cozumel for NYE. It’s great.

Was is Cabo for Thanksgiving week and heading to Riviera Maya in Feb. it was wide open but mask required in many places. But other than mask it was wide open.

I was familiar with Itza and Popo but never heard of Nevado de Toluca. That place looks badass!

Mexico has some ridiculous and under the radar mountains and canyons.

Eta: can you do the summit without a guide and without mountaineering gear/experience? 15k ft is pretty damn high.

You can with or without. I preferred to have one because the drive up there is a pain in the arse and needs high clearance.

There’s class 3 scrambling near the top on the ridge, but if the weather is clear and calm it’s not too bad in general. Then just take reasonable altitude precautions. When I was up there, sleet and fog rolled through.

These photos are from the top of the mountain in your picture.
