Besides Black-ish I mean?

Just saw a commercial advertising its 8th & final season. Was curious what the viewership for this show was and the numbers were horrible. The numbers certainly don’t justify 160 plus episodes worth of a series

Season 1 - 54th with 8.5mm viewers
Season 2 - 60th with 7.2mm viewers
Season 3 - 59th with 6.6mm viewers
Season 4 - 84th with 5.5mm viewers
Season 5 - 107th with 4.3mm viewers
Season 6 - 90th with 3.7mm viewers
Season 7 - 99th with 3.1mm viewers

There has to be other series with abysmal numbers that lasted just as long, no?

I really liked that show the first few seasons. At some point (maybe season 4 or so, i don’t really know) it got kinda weird and i never watched it again.

Dont know the answer to your question. Seems like a safe assumption.

Same for me. I liked Anthony Anderson before the show. Haven’t watched in years.

Not to defend the show (because I've never watched it) but with the proliferation of cable shows and channels this probably wasn't even possible 30 or 40 years ago.

It is surprising that they can afford to pay a real star (even past his prime) like Fishburne with such low ratings.

Is this a passion project for him (eg is he doing it cheap?) Or just supported by a key television executive who doesn't want to cancel it in spite of the ratings?

Look at the viewership the first 3 seasons, then the rest.

Towards the end of s3 they started doing “very special episodes” about the cops being evil and white people just being racist monsters. You can see the drop in viewership.

I thought the show was pretty funny early on. It treaded a line, made fun of both sides a little and was pretty even handed and humorous in its portrayal of race relations.

Then they went full on ultra leftist preachy and everyone stopped watching. But it couldn’t be cancelled for…reasons.

Speedy,

I’ve got no clue where you got these #’s or what they represent.

That said there are plenty of horrible to above average sitcoms that went that long.

Yes Dear
According to Jim
Mike & Molly
Drew Carey
Last Man Standing

Those are just the network ones.

Factor in the streaming ones that don’t use traditional seasons or syndicated methods like Netflix’s The Ranch & you’ll find even more.

PS

I liked The Ranch. Underrated comedy

30 Rock and Parks and Rec were exactly 7. 30 Rock had 3 seasons in the top 100(peaking at 69). P &R 1 in the top 100(96 season 1).
Supernatural went 15 seasons never higher than 125.

Total viewer ratings aren't really the most important factor anymore. Now they are looking for specific demos w/18-49 generally being the most important b/c they tend to spend the most money.

For example, The New Girl never made the top 50 either but b/c it did so well w/the 18-49 demo it lasted 7 seasons and 146 episodes.

61 - 8.22
77 - 5.85
103 - 4.61
138 - 3.42
125 - 3.69
133 - 2.93
171 - 2.18

Also, a major factor in if a show is doing well are its live +7 numbers. The live numbers are usually what you see in total viewers. +7 is the viewers from DVR and streaming via cable/hulu etc from the first week after the show airs and those numbers aren't necessarily always reported as freely as the traditional ratings.

I remember the last episode I watched was in 2016. The grandmother was a Trump fan but the rest of the family supported Clinton. They kept trying to win the grandmother over to no avail.

Until the end of the episode that is. Michelle Obama gives a speech endorsing Clinton. The whole family gathers around the TV and they all get emotional. Grandmother finally gets why they need Clinton. It was so fricking cringy.

The Carmichael Show was so much better in handling politics. Neither side won. Just good old-fashioned funny drama and bickering.

The Office only had one season out of nine in the top 50.

Parks and Rec only had one in the top 100.

Chuck wasn't ever better than #65 and fell to #138.

I don't even see the rankings for Psych, but probably not all that great.

Tbf, you can’t really compare a show on the CW to the Big Four networks. They’re a much younger network with fewer local affiliates. CW also don’t broadcast any major sporting events to help promote their shows and keep eyeballs on their network like the Big Four networks do. Supernatural’s ratings were actually excellent by CW standards.

I loved The Middle. It ran for like 11 seasons and I saw every episode, but I wouldn’t bat an eye if it did that as well

Speaking of ratings/views, I recently looked up the Walking Dead's viewers while talking with a friend who just started bingeing the once-popular show, and it's peak viewership average was just over 14 million in Season 5.

It started a fast decline right after the Negan murders (of popular characters), and is currently circling the drain at 1.8 million viewers in Season 11, which I didn't even know the show was still on air.

Then while watching Being The Ricardos, and in the prologue, it stated the I Love Lucy show would average 60 million viewers!!! I know there were far less tv options back then, but 60 million viewers on average is still insane.

Similarly, you're never going to see sports ratings the sames as they were back then.
