The Athletic: EFL under pressure to investigate Liverpool postponement

If true idk how you can let anyone in a management role continue forward.
Covid is supposedly a massive deal, at least from what I’ve heard Klopp say. Can’t have managers and other people in power of organizations skirting protocols to benefit them as a an individual and collective squad.
quote:
The EFL is under pressure to investigate why Liverpool players who tested positive for COVID-19 before the postponement of their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal were subsequently found to have been negative, with the Anfield club facing questions over the scale of their recent outbreak.
quote:
The Athletic understands that the EFL has received complaints from some of its clubs over the postponement, following Jurgen Klopp’s admission that all but one of the club’s positive tests were “false positives” — meaning later tests showed those players did not actually have COVID-19.
quote:
The upset clubs want the situation investigated because a number of them have requested postponements this season because of COVID-19 outbreaks only for appeals to be rejected.
The EFL could yet open an investigation into the incident and it is thought that Liverpool could be hit with a severe punishment should the EFL find that they failed to fulfil a fixture without just cause.
quote:
Klopp has said, however, that later tests showed that only one player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, actually had the virus.
quote:
The first round, involving the use of lateral flow device (LFD) tests, highlighted a number of positive cases.
The second round, involving the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests carried out by an independent laboratory, also highlighted a number of positive cases.
But a third round of tests indicated that the players in question were in fact negative. Liverpool did not comment when asked to confirm this and to explain when the results of the third set of tests were revealed.
‘False positive’ LFD results are considered highly unusual, with analysis by NHS Test and Trace showing LFD tests to have an estimated specificity of at least 99.97%

Seems so bizarre. The odds of that many false positives are apparently astronomical but the article says LFC went through 3 rounds of testing and the first 2 (one of which was a PCR) showed positive and the 3rd showed negative?
One thing nobody seems to answer is why the hell would we want to postpone it anyways
(Plus everyone has complained for years Klopp doesn’t care about domestic cups right?)

Lol right. It really made no sense to not play that match.
Wonder if the test batches got contaminated or something like that. Only thing that would make sense imo.

Well, I dont see how we really benefit from delaying the match... If the players weren't really positive, then they would have played.. No one is shutting down the entire training complex for 2 days to avoid Arsenal in the league cup
Salah/Keita and Mane were already gone for AFCON...
edit: Also, the rules changed for round 5 and the semi's of the league cup.. they only cite 5.1 in the article

Klopp is a COVID bitch, I hope they have to forfeit 3-0.

Players missing via suspension, injury, international duty should not be allowed to count towards players out due to COVID.
This has been the case for all teams that have had matches postponed and I don't understand the logic behind it.

Im just saying they weren't available regardless of when the game was played.. reinforcing that we didn't really stand to benefit from a postponement..

Didn't mean for that to be a shot at Liverpool in this situation. That was just a blanket statement for all teams.

The EFL will not investigate Liverpool after the postponement of their game against Arsenal was put down to false Covid positives.
Clubs around the league were reportedly unhappy with the Reds being granted the postponement.

The guy who runs the EFL is a former Liverpool employee. This is bullshite and they should forfeit.

yeah - I'm not sure why we should be penalized for following testing/reporting protocols...
We already forfeited home field in the 2nd leg...
