A friend asked me to join him there this week. I haven't played there in about 10 years.
It is in terrible shape.
Greens have weeds/ Poa grass going in them and the fairways were rock hard.
Even at $28.00 Senior rate it is not worth it in its present condition.
It use to be a challenging fun links style course to play.
Hard to understand why a golf management company doesn't reinvest back into their courses even when they get a lot of play.
Spend the money on the course, raise the rates if needed, but letting a course die a slow death is stupid IMO.

Yeah I lasted played it 8-10 years ago. Was a fun track then

Agree. Fairways are bumpy as hell and hard as a rock. Greens are full of weeds and at some point they got rid of all the traps.
Navigating the sand traps were the only thing that made that course challenging.

was a member there over 12 years ago when Palmer was the management company. Great course especially when playing from the tips. I agree, it's a damn shame how that course has gone to shite. Just unfortunate.

I haven't played since last spring but like how they took out the sand. More budget conscious courses should do that.

I played Southwyck on Saturday and Gus Worthem Sunday.. it was unbelievable the difference in the course conditions. I’ve been playing Southwyck for a few months now so I don’t have any reference to what the course was like in its heyday. But Southwyck Managment should be embarrassed.

When it opened it was a beast of a course from the tips.
Now the fairways are so hard, it's a pitch and putt course from the gold tees.
As far as bunkers, I don't know why more courses don't use the river sand that River Ridge used. It was great to hit out of and the wind didn't blow it out.

Played Southwyck this Weekend, the heat on Saturday was horrible. On a different post I mentioned that I would try and rate the green conditions. I decided to rate them on a 1-10 Scale as far as the condition of each green. The majority of the greens were slow but I did not deduct any points for that. I was mainly looking at the dirt/bald spots, weeds etc.
Hole 7 - 2 Score
Holes 9,15 - 4 Score
Holes 1,2,3,6,11 - 5 Score
Holes 4,5,12,13,14 - 6 Score
Holes 17,18 - 7 Score
Hole 8 - 8 Score
Holes 10,16 - 9 Score
Hopefully with the growing season, the greens will improve. Also, I did notice that the fairways are slowing getting better growth so that was good to see.

Thanks for the update.
Hopefully it will continue to get better. Watering will be the big issue now.
Are they still having issues with the water bills in Pearland area ?

I haven't played Southwyck yet but it was on my radar. I usually try to play Wildcat, BlackHorse, or Cypresswood on the weekends.
This weekend I played Stonebridge and Clear Creek. Stonebridge was dog shite. Every hole is a dog leg. I've never played a course so unoriginal and boring like that on top of having horrible greens.
Clear Creek was a much better layout with the greens also in rough shape but playable. I'm introducing my wife to golf and we played a twilight round last night. I would play there again.

Your normal weekend lineup of courses is fantastic. You should try and get on at Gus Worthem, it’s great deal for being close to Downtown. The only good thing about Southwyck is that it’s close to downtown and easy to get a weekend morning tee time. Fairly cheap as well. But the condition is laughable.

I’ll check it out. I also want to get a round in at Pasadena golf course since I work out there.

Forgot to mention that some a-hole killed that big goose that would hang around the Par 3 11th Hole tee box. The Marshall said that it looked like it was killled by an iron from the injuries.
