Going to that game was weird. They hate the other side more than they love their own. And the rest of Glasgow just stays home the day of the match. It’s a weird negative energy I wouldn’t want to go to again to be honest.

It’s not for the casual fan.

I watched it knowing little about Scottish League other than this was the Lakers/Celtics of their league. You explained it exactly how I watched it. Fans looked more aggressive towards the opposing fans than PL fan bases. I thought Rangers Manager looked familiar and thought he was the Wolves guy...He was not and I've never heard of him before.
That stadium looked huge.

It’s not even really about sports to them, it’s deep religious hatred.

I’ve been to some SEC games that were pretty chippy but there’s always the big time environment feeling outside people feed on and is a possible thing. This fed on itself but in a negative way. And it was spooky walking through a major European city before and after with no cars on the road and many businesses completely closed.

I will say the prematch inside the ground and when Rangers scored to go up 1-0 after I think 11 minutes was probably the most electric sports atmospheres I’ve ever been in. Their 45k did the job of even a good 95k stadium.

Can you expand on this? Does Glasgow shut down because of potential violence/riots?

It was about a mile and a half walk through the side of the city centre to get to our hospitality and it was a ghost town. Nobody on the roads, lots of businesses closed This was 9-10ish am on a Sunday morning.

After the game we walked back and once you got away from the Rangers bars it was similar. Very light street traffic and many places closed. We actually did find a place to have a pint but they were completely locked up and by random luck someone was leaving, they told us they were only open to regulars, when I told them I was American and we were wearing neutral colors they let us in and locked the door behind us. There were 7 to 10 older gentleman drinking but they were closed to the public because of the derby.

By the time we got back to the city center it was dinner time and things were more opening up than had been, but everyone had a guy at the door checking to make sure you weren’t wearing football colors.

The vibe in the whole city was just weird and off, the Old Firm felt like a burden for Glasgow. I’m glad I went but I really wasn’t a very enjoyable experience.

He is Risen

I’d gladly lend my hand to see the Vatican sunk into the ocean
