You mean 99 United
And that’s when the Prem was much more competitive

ferguson never had to beat an opponent that accumulated 90+ points like were seeing in today's league.

That’s the point
That United team only lost 3 matches and won the league by a point over Arsenal and four ahead of Chelsea.
3rd this year is almost 20 points behind.
The mid table sides were much more competitive than the league currently is, and we’re much more capable of taking points off the top sides. Now those teams get rolled 4-0 by City and Liverpool on the regular. The EPL is top heavy with essentially two super teams so far ahead of the pack. Two top teams so far ahead doesn’t make the league more competitive.
Instead of two clubs just running away with it every year, back then you got much more balance of the clubs.

buddy, pep had to beat two clubs that won two of the last three champions league titles. the premier league has never been stronger than it is now.

A top heavy league does not mean it’s the strongest it’s ever been. This is essentially Madrid and Barca in Spain sprinkled in with some Atletico.
Did you even watch in the 90s and 2000s, bc it looks like you didn’t
3rd place finished 19 points from the top, that’s not competitive for the entire league
Mid table clubs are not as strong as they were back then
Dunno how else to explain this
You are confusing top tier quality with overall competitiveness

You don’t think with the money involved in todays game that the most table clubs of today couldn’t beat the mid table clubs from the 90’s?
Posted on 5/22/22 at 6:31 pm to 5 Deep
The money is the problem, the top teams buy the mid table clubs best players for 100m pounds to sit on the bench.

Randy you just hit the nail on the head
5 Deep the money is a double edge sword, yes it’s helped improve the quality of the league with players from abroad but also you have a bunch of them who are overpaid who don’t perform
It’s has improved the league but hurt its overall competitive balance, it’s why last year’s champions of Europe finish 19 points off the top.
Randy is right you have the top clubs loading up their squad players with first teamers from the clubs below them.

the mid table teams should be able to buy a few guys for that price… Premier League can’t have a salary cap and be competitive with the leagues that don’t

Replacing top tier talent you have developed isn’t easy
And for a lot of these clubs that’s not in their model of a club to replace a £80 million player with something similar or two £40 million players. Instead it helps them operate in the black to be sustainable.

The champions league and every other European league have gotten too big
And now it’s only getting bigger
And now it’s only getting bigger

But you can’t deny most European soccer coverage is directed to the Americans who pick one of the already top clubs in one of the “big 5” leagues
