Will be in Sun Valley for a week in early March for a conference. Aside from skiing, what are some can't miss things to do during that time? Any restaurant suggestions are also appreciated.

Also, I'm considering flying in to Idaho Falls since tickets there are less than half of what it would cost to fly into Sun Valley (the schedule is better than Boise) and this adds up for a family of 4. I know crater of the moons is on the way, but anything else in the area I should check out?

I've asked a couple of times in the ski thread, but haven't gotten any responses there.

I went during ski season so I was limited to skiing as far as outdoor activities, but I'm sure there's a ton. Fat biking is pretty popular there during winter apparently.

Food wise though, Michel's where Hemingway was a regular, Pioneer Saloon and Warfield Distillery are must eats. As far as bars, Casino Bar and Sawtooth Brewery. It's a really great ski town full of friendly people.

Stanely is a sweet little town, but early March, it will still be really cold at night. Really good x-country skiing there.

Idaho Falls or Twin Falls? The drive from Twin Falls to Sun Valley will take you around 1.5 hours and from Idaho Falls 2.5 hours. Jackson Hole WY is actually a closer drive from Idaho Falls than Sun Valley.

Besides downhill skiing, if you are into Nordic skiing the drive up to Galena is worth it. Also groomed and classic XC skiing at the resort. You might have some luck fishing the Big Wood before it closes at the end of March. Nymphs and tiny midges that time of year. The Hemingway Memorial is worth a stop - I have never seen it in the winter, so that would be a cool time to visit. It is just up the road from the resort.

Sawtooth Club for a classic Sun Valley dining experience, Enoteca for upscale Italian, Ketchum Burrito for a mediocre burrito that will stick to your ribs after a long day skiing. Village Station at the resort actually has good food and a solid beer selection. TNT Taproom in town is small but has good craft beer. Have never been a fan of Warfield or Sawtooth's beers.

Is the conference at the resort? Or at the Limelight? The latter has an okay bar and restaurant for apres-ski. Resort has lots of options.

Idaho falls, but I'll check flight schedules for Twin Falls and see if that works. I didn't realize there was an airport sizeable enough there.

Staying on the resort and the conference is there as well. Thanks for all of the recommendations.

Also, has anyone utilized the bus system there? Pretty convenient?

nice! lots of dining options at the resort, and while you are at the conference if you bring kids there is an ice skating rink if they're into that.

yes and yes. but the walk from the resort into town isn't a bad one. short, and takes you past several horse pastures and the iconic red barn.

Boise is the same distance as Idaho Falls - about 2.5 hours. Lot more options for flights and cheaper too.

If the family is with you the sleigh rides are fun.

Theres tons of good food, but Vintage might be my favorite. Get reservations way in advance!

The people running Galena Lodge are leaving, not sure what the plan is for the upcoming winter. Food was good and the had xc ski rentals too. I would check before you go.

Thanks for the tips, but this is not the case for my dates. Idaho falls has earlier arrivals on my dates and $100+ per ticket cheaper.

Was just there this past February for a ski trip. Beautiful area. There’s a natural hot spring just outside of town in the National forest. Was awesome to sit in the spring then move a few steps and get in the ice cold river. Saw moose in the area as well.

Did a nice dinner at The Ram one night. Good food and nice atmosphere but not the best meal I’ve ever had. Really enjoyed lefty’s in Ketchum for bar food and beers. Enjoy your trip.
