And this^^^ is the tragedy. As messed up as the history of Russia is they are more aligned to western values than China and somehow after winning a Cold War against the USSR our inept and installed regime blew it!

I don't understand that after the fall of the USSR, why Russia was not invited back into the fold of nations. Before WW1 they were a respected nation amongst the world powers and had many ties to other nations in Europe.
There should have been a push to invest in them, help rebuild their economy and bring them into the world of free nations. It would have been beneficial for everyone that had happened.
Imagine a country that large with that many natural resources with a free market economy and friendly relations with the world. They should have been invited into the fold and then they would have been a massive bulwark against China.
